✭✭✭✭✭When the quest is complete Khajiit recommends a long hot bath with some good quality soap.
Then the flies should find you less appealing as a meal yes.
This one has this trouble sometimes when the orcs do not wash.

✭✭✭✭✭You can take it off manually in the menu where you can see your armor. You can see the kollopi essence slotted there, either to the left of the jewelry, or just underneath the jewelry. I think you might have to right-click it to take it off, or maybe just drag it off of that menu ... I don't remember.2
