What do you dislike most about MMORPGs?

For me it's how people wrap up their identities and their worth as a person into how well they play a video game.

News FLASH

Playing a video game well is NOT a virtue.

what's your issue with the type of game?

PvP players ganking PvE players in a mixed zone.

Oh, and level restrictions on quests (You need to be level (x) [in this skill] in order to start this quest), luckily ESO doesn't really have something like that as far as I can tell.

And certainly, those cringey costumes and mounts that some folk use to make their character ''stand out''. I really don't have to look at some joker guy riding a flaming mudcrab with a pet rainbow-colored netch, thank you.

Other people cherrypicking nodes and chests.

Look, I'll happily compete for nodes. I'll race anyone for a node and shrug and move on when I lose. If someone else is on my route, I'll skip ahead or go elsewhere.

But leaving your trash behind in a node or chest so that other people have to deal with it? That's just rude.

not having a fair competition... always the build behind or luck like crit hits and such

for all i care i would play chess, but the unfairness in this kind of games is compensated by the action and singleplayer kind of management

    2. The fetish known as 'need to balance' every week or two.

I play ESO for the beautiful world, sheer mass & scale of the game and a good combat system. That it is multiplayer is a drawback I live with.

I love most things about MMORPGs, otherwise I wouldn't play them, but I suppose the one thing I dislike most is the constant and unrelenting negativity of those who dislike them but can't make a clean break from them.

Balance problems and class-locked roles. You should be able to tank, dps or heal efficiently with any class you choose, as long as you get the gear and skills, but it’s not like that on most games(ESO included).
And ESO’s “range in PvE is much better” policy made me pretty much quit Trials, as I only play on my stamplar(and I really like my character).

Lack of communication from Dev Team to the community.

Unwillingness of a Company to provide basic tools and functions of a game and expect that 3rd addons will suffice.

Letting bots and gold sellers go unchecked and never acknowledging the problem.

Saying when using x ability they created is an exploit because they did not intend you use said ability in such manner and not making a immediate change to said ability. Especially when it is okay to use the ability everywhere else but this one thing they want to call an exploit. Banning/ punishing the gamers for the problems they created.

Swiss cheese game engines that can be hacked and a Dev Teams lack of acknowledgment of the problem.

Placing blanket protection to violators of TOS that it is a wall of silence and they can go for years doing the same violations. Used to be your name meant something, you knew that if you placed yourself in the role as the bad person then you had to live with your choices.

    Extreme Political Correctness.

The fact that people think that because they are not physically around other people, normal rules of behavior don't apply. It's because nobody's able to punch them in the face. I would punch the crap out of people who treated me in real life the way people have treated me in MMOs--not that I would have to, because nobody runs up to me in a grocery store and grabs a bottle of milk right out of my hand because if they did, store security would kick them out and they'd be banned from coming back in. Nobody wins a game of Horse with a stranger and then knocks them over and puts their privates on them, they'd end up in jail or in hospital. Nobody walks up to complete strangers on the street and starts verbally abusing them at random without consequences. It's consequences that make ALL the difference, either through threat of immediate violent physical retribution or of legal punishment for doing things that normal humans are raised to know better than to do. MMOs provide an environment completely free of consequences so people who already had disgusting tendencies can get their rocks off doing the things they would end up in the hospital for doing in real life.

I've only ever played one MMORPG - this one. I don't count the fact that I played the genre's forerunner, MUDs. Based strictly on ESO, my main criticisms stem from the challenge of realizing a character concept within the framework of an MMORPG compared to a single player RPG. There are various elements of this game that are pretty hostile to realizing one's creative vision. Any RPG system has limits out of necessity, but the sorts of limits created in a game like this strike me as artificial, frivolous, and pointless. For example, the very concept of "bind on pickup" gear is nonsensical.

    Basically everything WoW:

    - Tab-target.
    - 30-50 skills on your hotbars.
    - Mindless "Kill 6 Rats" quests.
    - Low value story questing in which everyone skips quest text.
    - Endless endgame gear dungeon hamster wheel.

If you can be attacked by another player, it's a PvP area.

If you can do quests unrelated to PvP, it's a PvE area.

See, this is why Cyrodiil is a mixed zone.

The RNG as a tool for forcing repetitive play. I can't tell you how many times I've run HRC, AA, SO, or Cloudrest looking for just one item. Not jewelry, but a single body piece or weapon.

I get why trials and dungeon gear can not be traded or sold on the open market, and I fully support that. You should have to play the content to get access to the top level gear. But how many times must I get a Helmet of the Eternal Yokeda when all I want is one VO dagger?

Soloers who invade MMOs and demand that everything be changed away from MMO type mechanics to an offline single player style of play.
"And it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days. The fact that the word "monetized" exists points to the heart of the issue for us: We don't want the player to worry about which parts of the game to pay for - with our system, they get it all."

RNG. I prefer skill based rewards over the luck of the draw.
