But can someone please explain to me how I can occasionally get blasted with a half dozen or so attacks in less than a half a second and meet up with instant death?

Ok, so my StamBlade is a little squishy compared to my beefed up, impenetrable heavy armor DK, and I need to be considerably more ingenious to stay alive. I get that. But can someone please explain to me how I can occasionally get blasted with a half dozen or so attacks in less than a half a second and meet up with instant death? I know there are some really good players, but no one can execute that many skills in an instant. So what's the deal here? Is this a lag issue where attacks are delayed then all unleashed at one time?

By layered attacks and damage combos. The game only allows for one skill to be cast per cool down, but some attacks such as curse, power of the light, sub assault, etc are delayed damage and so can be cast and timed with other abilities to unleash burst combos. Then you have damage over time effects that can be applied to deal steady pressure on top of regular abilities.
Really the only solution is to get better at PvP. The initial learning curve is steep. With time and experience you'll be more aware of what cues to look out for and how to react to certain situations. I know it may seem like you are just blowing up out of nowhere and ppl are seemingly casting a dozen skills in a second (which is impossible) but eventually you'll better understand whats going on, why, and how to deal with it.
Do you play with a wired or wireless connection OP? I've been running wireless and I think it really can play hell with this game sometimes. I'm about to drill some holes and pull a cable as my internet connection is faster than my WiFi connection to my router; and thats before you get into possibilities of interference and packet loss.
