Werewolf NPCs

Could anyone help me understand the werewolf form? I ran into a couple a few minutes ago in the rift and they attacked for awhile but never infected me..anyone know why? Eventually someone killed them against my objections. I am Dark Elf so I think I was in the right area. Is there more to it than just fighting them. Is the bite a rare thing?

Only certain werewolves that spawn during the appropriate times of the lunar month can infect you. Normal werewolf NPCs who are always there can't give you the infection.

Or just ask in your guilds (or zone chat) for a bite, that's usually easier. Even if you hang out near the wolf shrine, someone will probably just bite you. Tips are usually appreciated, but not necessary, although some players occasionally ask for a small fee if they're really poor.

I read that a lot but surprisingly I rarely see chat in zone or get responses. New to game so don't have a guild.

Thank you for the answer on the werewolf

What platform and server are you on? If PS4 NA, I can bite you.
PS5 NA. GM of The PTK's - a free trading guild (CP 500+). Also a werewolf, bites are free when they're available. PSN = DragonRacer13

Just to clarify, werewolf and bloodfiend spawns haven't been tied to the lunar cycle for a long time, not since players were camping the known spawns, killing them, and charging people exorbitant amounts of gold for the bites they've monopolized.

It's now a random chance each night, regardless of the lunar phase, to spawn either bloodfiends, werewolves, or neither.

As far as I know, the Werewolves in the Rift are always the ones that can infect you. There are other zones that have quest-related werewolf NPCs though.

However, it's a *chance*. I remember the advice was to hold block and open your character sheet until you saw the lycanthropy in your stats. Then you were good to go.
