How ESO turned from WoW-ish model to Skyrim-ish model

If you had seen the game in Alpha or early closed beta and then skipped to today, you would think it was an entirely different game. Because it is a different game. And its better for it.

Just wish they had baked in the character progression better. The idea that players would not rush to end game was not reality. The initial goal was just too low (L50) and the Vet Ranks did us no favors.

And I agree with the article, Skyrim changed the target audience a lot, lots more players and lots who ask for Skyrim II.
I on the other hand was very skeptical to ESO before getting my beta key but I had played multiple MMO and if felt like an TES game at once, I understood the limitations.

And article highlight the need for an faction change token, this is for causuals playing pvp with friends or players who join for pve but find they love the chaos in cyrodil but is in wrong faction.

Overall one tamriel is nice, you can go everywhere and quest and mess around, yes its some weird part as in

Comparing ESO to Skyrim is really a giant insult. It's pretty sad that every TES is compared to the least TES of all games in the series.

Downside if you have multiple characters, obviously vet cap and gear cap would continue to increase.

People don't give ESO the credit is deserves, not even nearly...

The fact that they pulled off a console launch and are PC, Xbox and PS4 is somewhat amazing in itself.

Overall, the amount of content is pretty good now and it's all still relevant for the most part. I find the biggest difference is that content, for me. You can argue that Wow has more content (which for being much older isn't a surprise), but how much of that content is even utilized anymore? I can guarentee that the burning crusade, wrath of the lich king, pandaria etc are all ghost towns of useless content. The only reason the "old world" in wow is/was used is because they only allowed the auction houses to exist in the old world capitals.

One Tamriel was a brilliant move and totally repopulated the game world with players. I nearly NEVER go somewhere and see nobody, there is always someone around and that's reflective of how they didn't just fall back on the tried and true method of building a new landmass to call your new home (abandoning the old home) as their model. Instead they constantly add to the old world and have kept it all very relevant.

Nothing is perfect though.. and if your expectation is perfection, get used to disappointment.

Actually, you can kind of play the game like a single player game if you want to.

You can play it kind of like Skyrim, however, of course, that is not an excuse for underperforming in your role in a dungeon or trial run.

No matter what, the combat can't really be played like a single player ES game but in terms of exploration you can do that.

It's AvA. It's referred to in-game as AvA. Alliance vs Alliance.

It's a term that is closely related to Realm vs Realm (RvR), which is from Dark Age of Camelot. Several DAoC devs then worked on ESO and implemented a similar form of PvP which they called AvA.

AA is alternate advancement its a industry term for game design progression other then levels .

I'm not 100% sure off hand, but I think that's the Any Race / Any Alliance promo art, so the Imperial wouldn't make much sense in that spread, as they already benefit from ARAA. (I'd need to log in and check the crown store to verify, though.)
