Can't login to ESO anymore

I've been having trouble logging into eso since the Thursday just past (the 6th). The launcher seems to work fine when launched through the desktop shortcut or through steam directly, but once I click play and the game launches it'll reach the login screen where it'll attempt a login request but it just comes up saying "connection to server timed out. Please try again later." It also says "unable to retrieve announcments" in the announcement section.

As well as that after I attempt this once, eso will remain "running" in steam after I quit the game and if I try to launch it again I'll get a steam window that says "an error occured while updating The Elder Scrolls Online (app running)" and I'll have to close steam and re-launch it to be able to launch eso again.

I've tried the repair option in the launcher itself, I'd have tried to verify the game files in steam but it's greyed out for some reason. I've tried adding exceptions to my firewall and even closing my anti-virus completely in-case it was blocking access but still no joy. I even tried un-installing the game and re-installing with no luck, the problem still persists. I've also tried launching the game directly, bypassing steam but that didn't work either and also it doesn't matter which server I choose, happens on both EU and NA.

Anyone else having these issues? Or have any ideas on what the problem might be? The game was working fine when I played it the night before (on the 5th).
