Upgradable houses

The price for some manors is ridiculous. I previewed Linchal Manor yesterday. It is nice, but for that price, it does not offer that much compared to other manors. The two towers are quite useless, the house interior is rather small, the house lacks any basement, and it is quite far from a wayshrine or town. BTW, I would add an escape tunnel to Kvatch.

I would invest my subscription crowns gradually in a large home, if the devs would allow us to buy such a manor, empty or in ruins. In time one could upgrade or repair each area with crowns or even with gold/AP/materials/vouchers. The item limit would be increased with each area that you unlock. This could be a nice game goal to work for.

In this way, the devs could even add customizable homes, say maybe instead of a barn I would upgrade that area into a library or armoury. Also I am a fan of the houses that have basements. Such a home could have various basements to purchase, like a vampire themed basement, a simple wine cellar or even a daedric portal to some pocket realm. The upgrades could be traded, bought from vendors, unlocked with achievements, maybe even crafted, so there would be a new market for housing related stuff.

This would add some replay value to houses, because if you get bored of a large house, you can change the upgradable areas into something else!

I think this idea is awesome! You could pay gold or crowns to upgrade your home! Maybe add some new layers to your house, or add in a dungeon/basement. The only issue is how would this work with viewing the home outside the instance? (e.g Kragenhome in Kragenmoor). I'ma tag Gina & Jess! @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

Introducing Tel Uvirith, the upgradable Telvanni Tower that is 16 years old, comes in 3 phases with purchasable merchants and a vault as well. Who would have thought there already exists an upgradable Telvanni Mushroom Tower from 16 years ago in a land called Morrowind. If only the devs from ZOS could figure out how they did it back then... en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Tel_Uvirith

Tel Uvirith in ESO would have to all be there for everyone else to see, so that wouldn't work.

However, adding a basement, cave, or other hidden features as an upgrade would most certainly work. Effectively, the house becomes two or more houses in one, especially if each is an instanced cell. I'd even put up with a load screen.

How about Frostcrag Spire? Another upgradable piece of property in a land called Cyrodiil, just off to the east of Bruma, high up in the mountains.
It comes with several upgradable areas such as a vault, a portal room to fast travel anywhere in Cyrodiil, a library, and enchanting and spellcrafting stations for everything a wizard would need.

The Coldharbour Estate is more like a sandbox home, where you are given a lot of space and freedom to build, but the only problem with this concept yet is the limited number of "prefabs" or building components available. Most styles do not feature basic components, such as walls, stairs, or even template rooms, and such. I would love to have such options... They seem to go in this direction very slowly, however, with the Alinor style, where we got more blocks.

My idea is to also expand or reshape some of the existing homes if you get bored with them. Some of them have towers or areas that are not usable. Others could feature a basement through a hatch, or even a cave (like the Harborage). Also I would love to place a pond or some waterfall. Some homes have big rocks around, one could be "upgraded" into a waterfall. The possibilities are endless.

This concept could also work great for guilds. Instead of giving a new guild a huge housing space, they could start small and make players work towards unlocking parts of the guild's castle (including NPCs, vendor, banker, smith (repair), stable, etc)
