Damage type convert ability idea for close combat mages

We all know certain classes need fight with a staff in melee range without ability to make decent range build. While they can dish out decent dps, they occupy melee slot that overall can do better with better defences from medium armor. If they have to fight in melee range, let's make them true battlemages then.
My idea is to introduce ability that convert damage type from all skills to another. It would allow more diversity and fight with melee weapon in magicka build without penalty.

How would it work? Let's take DK for example. Best candidate for damage convert is Molten Weapons.

Unmorphed:
OLD: Gives Major Sorcery
NEW: Converts 50% of physical, poison and disease damage to fire. Attacks use and scale with your highest resource while active.

This would allow magdk to use melee weapons or poison morphs effectively and get bonus damage from his passives.

Igneous weapons:
OLD: Gives Major Sorcery and Major Brutality.
NEW: Uses stamina to cast. Converts all shock, fire, cold damage to poison. Attacks use and scale with your highest resource.

Solves StamDK problems with too few stamina abilities. While active, all skills deal poison damage and use stamina, at cost of losing a buff. I guess those could be moved to other abilities, like Flames of Oblivion or even a passive. And you get beloved StamWhip.

Molten Armaments:
OLD: Gives Major sorcery. Increase damage of heavy attack by 40%
NEW: Converts all physical, poison, disease damage to fire. Attacks use and scale with your highest resource.

Allows MagDK using melee weapons even more effectively, and turns searing strike morph into heal/higher damage choice. And get real option for ranged build with bow/staff combination.

Templars could have the same thing with physical/magic conversion with Sun Shield.

I don't know how this kind of ability could affect PVP. Fire/Poison DKs can be a little problematic for thowanto wants to utilize cold for snares, but it's a timed buff.
