What happens if I go offline to play this?

So I grew tired of waiting for my data to sync and let me play, and decided to go with the 'go offline' option. It has allowed me to log in and play.

What exactly is the difference here? My character is exactly where I left him. I can still see/interact with other players. I'm not completely understanding this 'go offline' option.

Basically if you are in offline mode, other players will not see you "online" in friends or guild lists and no one will be able to whisper your character. I believe the option to invite you from friend and guild lists are also unavailable.

Setting yourself to "offline" means you won't receive whispers and will appear offline to people trying to contact you. It does not mean that you are not connected to the servers through the internet.

You must be referring to the Steam client’s offline mode. It basically means nothing with regard to ESO. There is no offline mode. It requires an internet connection at all times.

If you’re referring to the steam client offline mode then doing so will log you out of your friends list and you will appear as offline on Steam. That’s about it.

Yes, its designed to friends will not know you are on.
This is useful if popular and just have 10 minutes to do dailes and don't want to be spammed with dungeon and trial invites.
If friend list is empty its less useful.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Thanks for the answers - just to clarify i was more than aware it didn't refer to 'not being connected to internet'. Playing Elder Scrolls Online without internet connection didn't come into my mind

It's just I had to bypass the data syncing stage to play, so was unsure if that held any repercussions.

But if it's only not being able to talk to/group with other people, I'm sure I can live with that.

Not that it matters at the moment anyway, the game keeps booting me :disappointed:

'Unexpected internal error' is rapidly becoming my least favourite phrase of late.

You can't play Elder Scrolls Online...in offline mode...that is an option offered by Xbox not ESO...

You have literally used my quote where I state I'm aware I can't play this game offline...to then tell me I can't play this game offline.
