A DPS/Tank Hybrid Build?

I made a dedicated Tank for Dungeons but I'm disappointed now that i basically can't do anything else with her without doing a drastic Build change. Id like to have a character that can "succeed" in Cyrodiil and overland PvE as well as Tank base game vet Dungeons effectively using more or less the same build, maybe at the most just having to swap gear and that's it.

My current build I'm using is a Khajiit StamKnight,

5pc Ebon, 5pc Dragonguard, 2pc Chudan.
H: 43k M: 16k S: 17k
Mundus: Lord

If all i really need to do is get some new gear than what sets would work? I already have some Knight Errant farmed.

My main tank effectively becomes a robust damage dealer with some gear swaps. His setup is totally different than what you have going, though. He’s an Imperial for one, a templar for two, most of his stat points are in stamina, and he uses tower stone. He’s tanked every vet I’ve put him through, and a few trials (not really into trials though). Basically when he tanks he uses two heavy armor sets - which is where most of his health comes from - and uses 2h and 1h/shield. The rest of the time he wears a medium damage focused set and a heavy set with bow instead of 1h/shield. The sets I use are really based on his character more than optimizing, but he does well in either role. I don’t think it would translate to dk well at all, though. Still, it’s very possible.

You can certainly do it, and it’s fun, takes a few seconds in fact

I don’t do pvp so I can’t speak for that but my tanks just carry a spare set of jewelry with either spell or weapon damage enchants plus a spare two piece monster helm like skoria or any other damage dealing one, also a set like hundings but in heavy will help, don’t need to gold it out just so long as you can hit 40% crit and 2100 weapon or spell damage, stick on a couple of dps skills and a damage buff or two and she will chug along at 10 to 12k dps no problem at all and that’s plenty for killing worldbosses and you can just steamroller pve questing

You don’t even need to change your cp

A meta dps with 25 to 50k damage output will nuke pve quest baddies in one or two hits, it just takes me 4 or 5 as long as my damage buff skills are active is all, I started doing it after my main who was a dps at the time did summerset, personally I highly recommend it, I haven’t enjoyed the game this much in years

A good combo is Baharas curse (any tank should have this set really, just to use for messing about), Thunderbug and grothdarr or infernal guardian (only if your a class that uses shields, the spells not the items) You can very effectively take down large packs.

All are just fun to use. You can easily complete any 4 man content on any difficulty with it, assuming your good at mechanics.

The best advice though is that you intend to play 3 very different activities. You can only gear for one at a time. You’ll not be the best at the other 2, no one set works great for all 3, you could be more effective if geared and built for the activity your doing.

If you only have one build your probably compromised in all 3.

To get this clear, you want one viable build for:

    -PvP
    -normal PvE dps
    -vet PvE tanking

without swapping skills, mundus, food and CP - only by swapping gear?

Tag me when something viable comes up. I'd like to see that "eierlegende Wollmilchsau".

The tank that does damage is the Holy Grail of builds... Knight errant is not good.

The best recent build is Gilliam the Rogues last ever build video about a sap tank that plays like a dps. https://youtu.be/7O2FGuMU9RE

I'm doing some testing with a Stam recovery tank (bosmer, werewolf, bone pirates, dubious Cameron, recovery glyphs and serpent = 3k recovery in heavy armor. Could be paired with ebon etc although I prefer plague doctor for 4 man pugs). 1h+s front bar and two-hander backbar. The idea is that you can spam abilities (including bone shield and brawler for lots of damage shields), and when you need to block you can quickly recover stam before the next 'need to block' moment. The strength of the build is the werewolf mode... Werewolves are dps machines so good for bosses that cannot be taunted and pvp.

My other dps/tank build is a true hybrid. Argonian Dk, with clever alchemist, jewellery infused to reduce potion cool down means a very high up time on the spell/weapon damage buff and great sustain. Pair this with twice born star for the two most powerful mundus stones, the thief and the lover... Most mundus give a bonus roughly equivalent to a 5 piece set bonus, but the thief and the lover each give the bonus of two armor set bonus'; spell crit, weapon crit, spell pen, phyical pen. This gives you fairly decent stats in everything, while wearing heavy armor.
#1 tip (Re)check your graphics settings periodically - especially resolution.

Well, that's the thing about hybrids. You're not really going for "optimized" by definition.

Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. Depending on how you build you can fill any of the roles even in vet dungeons without much trouble. You just won't be Mr. Nuke-The-Boss-In-Two-Seconds.

I did a Stam nb tank / dps hybrid on my bosmer, basically putting all 64 points in Stam and using Ebon and Imperium, with all enchants in health and mundus the Lord.

Even for the skills, I took liberties with certain dps skill such as relentless focus and power extraction.

Dps wise, I used hundings and automatons. Simple stuff to use really. And the chest, legs and head I use tri Stat enchantments while the rest I use stamina enchantments.

I just don't use cloak, it's basically the regular build stuff. Either dual wield or bow will do. There's more than enough skill points to go for a third weapon skill line anyway.

My DK tank (also a Khajiit) is set up with all points in stam, and ebon/plague doctor +tri stat to get around 37k health, will be higher once I invest in all the tristat enchants and also get the transmute gems to get all the pieces in the right order. Then I just swap around to hunding and I think sunderflame (what I had laying around) for DPSing. Probably could get another set int here for PVP, but I don't PVP all that much on stam characters, usually I just chuck my stam characters out there in what ever inpen sets I have. I think one was bone pirate. Thing is I don't know how it will look without plague doctor until I get the motivation to go farm the sewers for runes, so whether or not I can ditch the selfish set for alkosh or dragon, or another set it debatable at this time. I was working on the below character, and have seen some success. Monster set is bloodspawn for tanking, and selenes for damage (Kra'ghs and veli as well.). Though on low damage groups I might just up on the selenes while tanking. (Though he is 2hand and bow, because a I like big swords on cats. So, his deeps isn't duper high but it's overworld.)

I have a mag nb (dunmer/vampire), that I also swap around to different roles. I am using him to achieve hunt, and for solo/duoing dungeons as the tank/heals/dps. All points mag (until triglyphs, I had 10 points in health just for a buffer), he is in burning spell weave and bahraha's curse (though julianos/ and tavas favor have been tried as well. I love bahraha's and can't recommend it enough.) with grothdar or skoria (infernal guardian and ilambras is available as well). When I need to PVP I pop on some shacklebreaker and lich. for general dps -- bsw and sirorias, tristat enchants + food give me a nice comfortable health, mag, and stam pool. Working on coming up with a build for harder dlc dungeons with 2 people. Nothing concrete there yet. But this character holds around 40 pieces of equipment all the time, and on the fly I can do all three roles in dungeon finder competently (sans full tilt vet tanking just because I don't have sets on him for me to be useful to my team, but healing sure. I have some extra spc laying around.)

As a note, all of my characters are in nocp pvp. mostly because the guilds I have don't play in cp Cyrodiil. So while you can do the swap sets, your CP will need to change a decent amount. So you can use something like dressing room to quickly swap gear and skills, cp will be a manual change every time. Or you can accept no cp pvp, with tank based cp in general. Or you can accept that your cp isn't optimized for pvp/tanking (which ever you are willing to sacrifice) and learn to work around it.

With any mix build like this you have to be willing to make a sacrifice somewhere (my Khajiit doesn't kill things super fast, but again it's overworld. My Dunmer isn't the worlds tankiest, but shields and heals help get him through); they will not be the best dps ever if you're a better tank, or the worlds heartiest tank if you are prioritizing damage. Be prepared for that, if you are cool with that and figuring out the cp, then it is totally doable. Just have to accept some short comings.

7th legion chest, legs, boots, and weapons /shield / etc.
bone pirates belt, gloves, and jewelry (in whatever trait you prefer, the neck is a pain to farm but you can spam the dungeon on normal with friends and upgrade it from blue to gold now)
2 piece monster in heavy, can go with blood spawn, troll king, I personally love troll king as it can effect others but most tanking sets are viable here, and if you find you need more stam then yeah, blood spawn, etc.
    camoron throne drink
    serpent mundus

place attributes as needed, enchants as needed, etc.

I personally run full tri stat enchants, swift jewelry (not as much use in pve but great for me in pvp, though being mobile in dungeons is never a bad thing) at least 2 weapon damage enchants, and have more attribute points in stamina then health.

with this same build I have tanked normal dungeons, vet dungeons, and its my pvp build (I too did not want to swap) so I settled on a "bruiser" style build that could do everything I cared to be able to do.

im personally a khajiit because I have loved the race since morrowind, but imperial is probably optimal, with nord being second, then a three way tie for third between khajiit, bosmer, and redguard.

Not really you need to build it right. I clutch one it was city of ash 2 last boss and I was tank. Took a while but manage to kill him.
If say all DPS died and healer your high health ass is going need to res them. But later you get stunned time to time and the whole team wipes. If your a Templar tank probably won’t be much of an issue to res.

Urgh - most and foremost, don't compromise your ability to do your job.

*** me off no end when you're in a dungeon and tanks arn't maintaining 100% major fracture and taunt & healers arn't healing cause they think "they're doing ok dps to justify it". So many times I see this and look at combat metrics to see I'm still doing 60% of group dps and not getting what is actually needed from the 2 other roles.

    all stats in stamina,

for dlc dungeons and vet dungeon boss:
plague doctor + ebon, so you are well above 30k health

for overland and normal dungeons and vet dungeon trash:
hunding rage + VO or TFS

after you get familiar with dungeon boss mechanics, you can tank them in hunding rage full medium armor at ~20K health. (not DLC ones tho. and not even normal trial. imo dps tank is strictly for easy content, up to non DLC vet dungeon)

I am unsure why so many are criticising the desire to create a DPS/Tank hybrid. Its often called an "Off Tank" and required for some Trials.

Its also rather advantages to have high survivability, but be able to deal reasonable DPS as well, for a range of content.

As some have outlined, it is absolutely possible and I am currently theory crafting one myself. I want a high survivability DPS, capable of tanking when required, for use in Trials and PVP. And my theory crafting thus far is creating some, on paper, extremely viable builds with for instance, circa 35k health and 30k Stam.

Well, obviously you need completely different sets for PVP and PVE.
For Tank/DPS hybrid, I'll go with proc sets, since they do damage even if you don't have min-maxed stats relequen+velidreth+vma bow (backbar)+power assault (frontbar). If you are CP 810 and have at least 25-30k HP and 25k resistances you will have more then enough durability to tank base vets and in the same time proc sets will allow you to do some damage, I guess 15-20k will be real. (I tested it on nightblade with war machine instead of PA and it was solid 20-25k, but DK can't spam ulti so war machine is no go).

I unno my pals and I run vet dungeons on 3 MagDk’s. We usually kick the fourth random if 1. He’s not friendly 2. He starts to whing 3. Just cuz.

The game ain’t that hard, particularly PvE. As for normal dungeons solo most of those on a MagDk. DLC normals 2 MagDks. Square biness!

Would ebon + relequen be a good set for a dps tank? Specing to 100% raise group dps seems really dumb to me when groups are 4 people and group dps is usually around 50k. Might as well raise my dps from 5k to 20k.

Well, I do not tend to look at the date of a thread, I see something of interest, and I comment as I see fit.

And why wouldnt I make a Necromincer, I'm making two actually, its an awesome class.
