Current state of DK DPS

Hi,

I'm back on the game since yesterday, I haven't played since the DLC Imperial City, so it's been a while haha... At the time, I was trying to build a DPS DK Magicka (I'm 163). But I see everywhere that today It sucks since a patch and that other classes are way better. So my question is : should I change to a stam dk (I don't want to make a new ch unless if it takes less time than before...) ? Is is worth it in terms of gold (I'm poor haha but I had almost the entire Sun set, I don't know if I can sell it) ? Should I change my race if I do that (I'm a Darkelf) or it is not very important ?

(It's mainly for PvE)

Thank you !

Depends on what content you gonna play the most .
Current DK DPS has no problem with all PVE content , unless you are in a score run / leaderboard guild .

StamDK single target damage is higher , race is optional .

MagDK has good, not great dps potential. I main a MagDK and can pull off pretty good numbers, with the right build you'll be fine.

Only problem is dps is done in melee range and a lot of newer ones and trials are more punishing towards those that do their damage at a close range.

MagDKs do acceptable dps considering their innate tankiness and other utility. if anything the other classes are OP *cough* nightblade *cough* Plus I love just setting everything on fire.

The Morrowind patch really hurt them but they have received a couple of buffs since then. I think it was a few patches ago where they got magicka return when you set someone on fire (burning status) and after that I no longer have big magicka sustain issues. Their sustain is worse than some other classes *cough* Nightblades *cough* but if you have a healer its no longer an issue.

I am a Dark Elf MagDk using Silks of the Sun and Burning Spellweave (BSW), Grothdar. Skoria is also good but I think Vaults of Madness is easier than City of Ash 2 and you end up with too much health. I am assuming you don't have DLC so Zaan isn't an option.

The crafted set Law of Julianos (which you can get someone else to craft for you) Is only a little worse than silks or BSW if you are looking for something to wear in the meantime.

The best set is Mantle of Sioria from Cloudrest but I don't know if you have Summerset.

There is some issues with being melee range and not being able to move fast but I find that I am hard to kill even as a vampire. The major issue is that there are these mechanics that are hard for you to participate with like Maw of Alkosh running and Cloudrest (Although turns out that in normal Cloudrest I don't die to the explosion). But if you just want to do the content you'll be just fine.

Oh ok great thank you! I was afraid that I had to rebuild all my character...
And since I'm here talking about DK, Does becoming a vampire give a real advantage ?

I main a MagDK through thick and thin. Yes, sustain is a big issue. Even with all max magicka enchants, 1 mag recovery glyph on jewelry, and witchmothers brew, you will see yourself running low on Magicka quite often. So far I have done pretty much every vet dungeon and a few normal trials. I run Siroria, BSW, and Grothdarr/Zaan/Skoria. Solo DPS parse ~33k

I have some trouble with sustain when I am solo parsing. (I am at 30K with 300 ping)

I have no trouble at all when I am doing trials.
The healer has worms or throws me orbs or I stop my rotation to dodge or run after the boss and get some regen ticks.

Only issue with MagDK is their DPS is compared to Stamina builds (since they play melee, so will take the spot of a stam DD) but stam will always hit harder.
@Sparr0w so I get the notification

Vampire passives are great (better resistance + better mag recovery), but it's optional I think. Depends on the content you're doing, incoming fire damage etc...

Mag DK has great dps. Out of the mag classes, I'd place it second behind magblade. You can solo parse up near (and maybe hit) 50k dps no cheese.

The obvious caveat is that you're stuck in melee range, but you'll have an advantage over Stam dps via extra built in tanky-ness and access to a shield.

Honestly, for a MagDK, vamp is a necessity for that extra Magicka recovery

This is pretty much true. Unfortunately, it's also a death sentence in PVP- since the current meta is DBoS.

I don’t know what these people are talking about, MagDK is currently very good in pve, yes, it won’t outdps a StamBlade, but they can outdps 3/5 stam classes in their spot. The only reason you don’t see parses from them is because people prefer to bring a StamBlade instead, the right person with the right build will pull more than a Magblade in a lot of scenarios.

What's a decent DPS benchmark for MagDK? I can get 40K on The Precursor.

    Hey OP.

MagDKs are still viable for all content (though some groups may shunt you because they want specific classes in their runs but don't let that put you off).

I used to use the WhipDK build but when the change to off balance dropped i changed. I now run a non meta setup that has a heavy attack based rota that works perfectly (see build video below, full details in description).

I tried StamDK for a while and found it still fun to play but changed back to Mag as i prefer the play style over all.

My build has been through all content (except for vMoL, vHoF and vCR as i haven't been able to get into a successful group for these) and has had no issues with sustain or surviving (unless i make a stupid mistake of course haha).

I would honestly say play the game how you want to and use what works for you. There's no right or wrong way to do things (even though some people will tell you otherwise), so as long as you're enjoying yourself while you're playing that's what counts.

Mag DK dps is in a good spot, like every other class it can hit 50k on a dummy without cheese and 65k+ in a raid scenario. The issue with DK's is, they take a melee spot. Unfortunately NB are grossly overperforming in any aspect needed for trials, especially on that melee spot.

Another point to raise OP is that NBs are always compared to every other class due to the numbers they can pull but the people pulling these numbers forget about the fact that NBs have access to a lot of buffs in their tool tip and without these the gap wouldn't be anywhere near as high as it is.

I would honestly say play what you enjoy and go with what works for you. Amy content can be done with 25k DPS as long as the entire group know and full understand the machs for the content that they are running (and of course that 25k will be a lot higher in an actual raid scenario due to buffs / debuffs from tanks and healers).
