We have dropped Stamplar for a lot of content so they run minor breach/fracture poisons instead of running potl. It's helpful in stamina intensive fights.

Poisons were the PvE meta on the bow bar for the past year and then some. Before that, magicka DPS ran poisons as well at times. Breaching poisons can still get some play as well.

I'm not currently using them but for the past year I've been buying up Nightshade/Nirnroot by the thousands and crafting 1,000 double damage health poisons at a time.

Given how often the meta shifts, I wouldn't be surprised to see poisons back in the PvE meta before too long.

I think the proc and refresh rate of poisons is way too low to be useful in PvE. same as bleed from axe type weapons. Most fights doesn't even last long enough for them to trigger once, or even run the full duration.

boss fights, trials, pvp, maybe.... but who gonna bother switching all the time?

Sometimes, only when I forget to unslot them after a bit of pvp
I have (rarely) used poisons in pve and my use of poisons is very situational and not because I had forgotten to unslot it, although that could happen. Below is a short list..

    1. Never on an infused weapon, I would equip a differently traited weapon if I wanted to use poison.
    2. If wearing skoria monster set.. I might slot a double dot poison ( but never on an infused weapon).
    3. If I need a resource return, I might slot a poison which provides the desired resource return ( but never on an infused weapon).

Wow, I’m learning so much on this thread.

So what you are saying, until this next update drops I should’ve been using poisons on healers and bows?

I wasn’t using them to begin with because I went away not long after Morrowind but now that I’m getting these responses maybe they aren’t as universally useless as I always thought they were.

When is this update again, I thought we just had one

    weapon AOE dots.
Basically e-hail and ele blockade. Your class dots won't proc enchants while on the other bar.

Hey after 2 years I’m still a noob in some areas of the game.

Using poisons in PVE must have been really hot an update after Morrowind until right up to just now. Honestly never used poisons in PVE before Morrowind.

    In PvE, no.
In PvP, definitely! I have a StamSorc, Marksman & Morag Tong, Asylum Bow w/ Tri-Poison, Crafted, Hindering (Hinders speed, drops both resistances, does health dmg & restores health).

What I find amazing is that folks actually USE those "Crown-Crap" poisons, (& potions). Lol.. :)

Oh okay. Now I see. Wolfhunter is the patch the removes the “poisons are good in pve” thing. Well I’m on PC and I’ve never used poisons in pve. I don’t play dps either so I was pleasantly surprised when someone said the healers can use them. Alas I was late to the poison craze and now it’s over again.

I only PvE, and that's overland questing rather than competitive or other group play, and haven't used poisons thus far although unlocking them is a part of my advancing in Alchemy. I've always intended to test poisons against enchantments, but have never found the need or time to do so. I wonder if I'm missing out as a result?

I leave the home without them all the time - but early in my career I somehow accrued some 1200 Lethal Crown Poisons (not even crate ones so I can't shard them to gems.)

When I level up Stamina toons I put them on - 276 remaining. Maybe one day they'll all be gone. I don't even use them for the fact they're potent, or that they're poison - just to clear up the space without having delete something I paid for at one point or another. (Pretty sure Crown Supply Crates did this)

Personally, especially in PVE, I would say enchants are better. I don't PVP either, been in a few times, but def. a PVE guy.

The thing is if you're a PVE player, your source of poisons is your alchemy ingredients which is just ew - you want those for various potions ideally. Or even to sell because they're worth more to you that way. Whereas Soul Gems... well you can easily steal like 30 in Belkarth every 5 minutes if you aren't already rolling in them.

My problem is poisons only trigger 1 in 5 hits, whereas enchants will always hit.

Alot of poisons also have relatively "useless" for PVE effects like to damage the enemy stamina or magicka, which let's face it, they'll keep attacking anyway in most cases, have you ever seen an NPC run out resources?

The best enchant for damage is Fire and hits at 4000+ at CP160... there are poisons that do more damage - problem is they also take time to do said damage.

Idk, to me personally a 1/5 chance to slow DoT roughly 7000 damage - versus the ability to do a 100% reliable hit at +50% the damage and deal that damage instantly, seems the best for PVE.

That said poisons aren't all about damage - they're more about crippling enemy resources, applying debuffs etc, which is more of a PVP centric thing.

    I wouldn't say you're missing out by a longshot.

You can sell the crate stuff for gems to buy other crate items.
For the normal login rewards you can just as well use it.
Some DB quests require you to have poison on weapon for perfect score.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

Depends on the patch. At one time I was using them on almost every character, in summerset I only used them on my stamblade (i think all stam set ups did), as well as our healers occasionally using breach poisons. Don't know about WH setups yet because of well, console lyfe.

it's worse than a damage enchant.
On DW & bow you go weapon damage enchant on the off hand, but that's pretty much it
Magicka builds do more damage with flame backbar and shock front AFAIK
