Good morning, I also run a magika, Nord, DK, Tank

Please could you explain some aspects of your build?

    1. low slash vs heroic = yes more enemies get "maimed" but what about talons and the loss of ulti gain from the heroic? are you not using talons? do you not miss the extra ulti gain?
    2. i dont understand why you have swift trait on your jewelry.

    General Tank questions:
    1. with Murkmire changes to shields: will the "Ananarre's Invincible shield tank" (a DK with lots of super powerful shields for group) make a big comeback?
    2. when i tank vet trials.. the times where i failed was always due to not understanding the mechanics. sometimes it is hard to see the mechanics with so much special effects. is there a way to turn down/off the player visual effects but still keep the enemy visual effects- to let me see only the boss visuals? and if so, does it help other players?

    Thanks!!!

    Hello!

1- I do run Heroic Slash.
2- For stacking faster and getting out of AOEs before they hit me.
3- No, shielding strat got nerfed into the ground few weeks after Morrowind.
4- The setting at the bottom in Video Settings should do it. I don't remember the exact name but something like "Show Ally Effects". Turn it off and you are good.

Do you reckon Warden tanks are going to be popular come live due to the Minor Toughness or will DK tanks still be the beast they are? ANd yea, I'm struggling between the two at the moment so just curious as to your thoughts. Keeping an eye out for your Warden build to come!! ;)

The only reason I played DK this patch is Engulfing Flames. I would play Warden otherwise, which I will next patch.

And, I am sure you have explained this before, what about wardens do you think is better, outside of minor health buff.

And to add @Liofa , what do you reckon is eso tanking beginner friendly..DK or Warden? (lol, like how we completely leave out the other classes?) ;)

For me, they are more fun to play and that's the most important. Other than that, I like the fact that there are no "oh sh*t" buttons like DK. I don't feel like I am getting carried by several passives. I have to play properly throughout the whole fight as a Warden. The class doesn't allow mistakes and makes the gameplay more challenging. I like Frozen Device better than Chains too. It has better range, I can pull enemies through enemies without having to actually target them, applies Major Maim etc. And again, it requires better gameplay because how the skill works/activates itself. Better gameplay = better reward. Let's not forget the Shimmering Shield. It's immortality against projectiles and the best ultimate regeneration buff in the game. I can provide synergy with Budding Seeds to the other tank for better Alkosh uptime, give Major Resistance buffs to my team (well at least half of them) and all that. I can heal the group with AOE burst heals like Budding Seeds and make difficult trash fights a lot easier with Northern Storm if I wanted to.

Definitely DK. As I said above, it has all the emergency buttons when you make mistakes. About to die? Magma. Running out of stamina? Spam Fragmented or just use ulti. It's extremely sturdy and can stack a ton of Healing Received which is very important. As a Warden, you have none of these but I can support better. As I said before, my only reason to play DK is Engulfing Flames. If it wasn't there, I would swap back to Warden long ago.

I agree Warden tanks are fun to play. Maybe they are just more fun than DK's or I'm like a kid with a new toy.

But DK are better tanks hands down. You make not like the oh *** button and you have to be more aware as a warden, but I would rather play safer and be a DK over a warden because the only time I play as a tank is dungeons and trials and I don't want my mess up to cause the group to wipe.

Thank you for the guides as always Liofa...really appreciate them.

What is your reasoning for Fragmented Shield over Igneous Shield in Murkmire? I would have thought the stronger self shield (now with resists) would make igneous more desirable over another 2 seconds of mending?

Is it because you are running lingering pots and squeeze a bit more out of them over time?

Exactly. The extra shield never helped or was important to me. I use the skill for Ultigen and Stamina Return 99% of the time. I don't remember the last time I used it to actually protect myself from damage. So I went with Fragmented the exact moment they put extended Major Mending duration in Summerset PTS and it was amazing even on the first try. Lingering Health and Vitality potions are crazy strong and Fragmented Shield compliments the potion playstyle by a ton.

I don't think Resistance buffs are good enough to make up for the shield size nerf. Fragmented is just better but only if the build has a ton of self healing, especially from the lingering health potions.

So learn the fights/mechanics and all that as a DK then maybe down the road go Warden? I do enjoy the Warden playstyle but if it has a bit steeper learning curve then I am better off going DK so as to not get discouraged and all? Thanks heaps for your input!
