switching to same type of boots but stats change.

Hello. As can be seen in the picture, when I swap boots from "Queen's Elegance" to "Combat Physician" my max magicka and spell damage go up, even though both boots are light armor and in the same rarity. The traits don't play a part in this as well. Note that I don't have any other Combat Physician items equipped and have a full set of Queen's Elegance.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?

First of all, as the screenshot shows, you actually have not (yet) swapped the equipped boots with the boots in the character's bags.

The "paper doll" on the left side of screenshot shows that Max Magicka and Spell Damage increase while the "Queen's Elegance" boots are equipped because it is one of the pieces which grant the 5-piece bonus.

If you equip the "Combat Physician" boots, then the paper doll and list of stats will show Max Magicka and Spell Damage are less when you highlight the unequipped "Queen's Elegance" boots in the character's bags. Which is to say, compared to the "Queen's Elegance" boots, the "Combat Physician" boots produce less Magicka capacity and less Spell Damage.

Yes, it seems to me that the feature should show the amount of increase or decrease in a stat if the highlighted item in the character's bags were equipped instead of one which is currently equipped. But, in my experience, the feature has never worked that way.

In other words, this either (a) may, or may not, be a "bug" or (b) may, or may not, be a design flaw. As the extinct software developer Borland used to say, "the software is working as designed" -- even if it produced incorrect output from correct input. Go figure.

Unfortunately, in my experience, it is not unusual for a ZOS developer to implement a feature to work exactly the opposite way that, IMHO, it "should" work instead. As a retired former programmer and systems analyst (software designer), I really do have to wonder why that is so. Then again, whether a feature "should" work the other way instead of the way that it does work depends, I suppose, upon how you look at the purpose it was meant to serve.

Thank you for the detailed response.
The thing is that even after I swap to the Combat Physician boots the stats go up - slightly higher even than the stats shown when I only hover over the boots in my inventory, as seen in the picture.
Saying that, I think its safe to conclude that its a bug, or rather a human mistake when they crunched in the numbers for one of those items.

If the stats go up after the "Combat Physician" boots are equipped, then I would assume that there are still at least five pieces of the "Queens Elegance" set equipped after you unequip its boots. Either that or you have other "Combat Physician" set pieces equipped, too.

If neither at least five pieces of the "Queen's Elegance" set remain equipped, nor do you have any other piece of "Combat Physician" set piece also equipped, then evidently there is a bug in the software feature that signals an increase or decrease in Magicka capacity and Spell Damage. Or, as you suggest, there may be some corruption in the data on record for one of the two items, if not for both.

Actually there aren't five pieces of the Queens Elegance set equipped after I equip the Combat Physician boots, but that's not relevant, since all the 5th item bonus gives is increased damage on your light and heavy attacks. There are also no other Combat Physician items equipped at all times. So yeah, as we said - One of the sets (or both) is faulty.

Lets hope ZOS actually read these threads and something will be done about it.
