Ugly enchant glow is FINALLY gone from weapons

I asked for this several times on the PTS with no reply, but it seems the team finally fixed the permament, ugly enchant glows that have been plaguing all weapons ever since Summerset update.

I checked my various outfits, and none of them have glowing weapons when in the default, sheathed position. They do glow permanently when the weapon is wielded or drawn, but I suppose I can live with that, the most important change is that the ugly enchant glow is completely GONE when not wielding the weapon, as you can see on the picture below, taken just now.

Now if we could just get a toggle to turn the enchant glows completely off for those who want to get rid of them ..

Agreed! A character-specific option would be great.

I liked seeing my lightning staff crackling with electricity from the shock glyph on my Sorceress.

The "just dipped in poo" look that Crusher enchants put on my tanks' weapons? Not so much...

Shame, I also wish their was a toggle, I liked seeing the lightning crackle up and down the staff. Looks boring now. Seemed like a simple thing to have a toggle for those who want it and those who do not I would have thought.

Bummer. I liked the effect. Shame it is gone completely. Best thing would be a toggle. Everyone would be happy. Well I take that back. Impossible to make everyone happy. A toggle would make most people happy.

I would agree with a toggle as well.

Oh thank goodness, that was getting to be a bit much. Felt like I was back in unmodded Morrowind.

    I’m happy about this too.

And more options wouldn’t hurt. Would like this toggle to be able to turn off the new Undaunted weapon visual effects as well.

I really like the upcoming Kena style, especially the shield. But I might get sick of the cackling lightning and want to turn it off!

Toggle for the win. Literally everyone wins.

Me, too! I would be for a toggle so that we could get our glow back.

I'd like to see a toggle as well. I don't really like the glow. I spent over 1000 gold per weapon to make them black. Summerset comes out and they are no longer black but now look like trash. I'll be glad when they are gone (on Xbox) but I don't want ZOS to take it away from people who like it.

Just to add, I've spent over 10K on my main alone for plain, black weapons. Now I'm sad.

Sad to hear this is gone, my bow had electricity flashing along it's length and I really liked it. A toggle would be excellent!

Pond Frog vanity pets would be awesome too, just saying....

Lol, when the outfit system launched, weapons didn't have a glow at all. People complained.

Then ZOS added a permanent glow, and people complained.

Now they only glow when drawn, and people complain again.

I think this is a fine compromise (only thing better would be a toggle). I think the glow effect is pretty ugly and low-res, so I'm glad it's hidden outside of combat.

Part of me gets where you're coming from; it does sometimes seem like it's impossible to make the forum happy, and complaints will roll in no matter what.

The other part of me thinks a little common sense would go a long way with implementations like this. As you say, a toggle option would have been the way to go from the start. Kinda seems like a child would have been able to make the right call there, let alone whatever team / professional game developer dropped the ball in not doing so.

I agree that the current solution is fine, and a compromise. But it's "fine" only because I'm quickly losing confidence in ZOS's ability to make good decisions on things like this. It's a small and non-critical aspect of the game, but it's also a detail that doesn't escape people's notice. If it were handled sensibly from the start (i.e., with an option to pick your own setting), it wouldn't be a topic of as much (if any) complaint.

Funny how people now claim that "they love the glow", when Summerset landed I counted the first 5 threads complaining about them being permanent. Also, I think many here do not understand the difference between VFX effects, such as the fire/lightning when you draw your weapons, and the lingering MoL glow - and the low-res, blurry swirling enchant glow on your weapons, that reflect the enchant on it. Those are two completely different things, and have nothing to do with one another.

THIS is how the weapon enchant looked before Wolfhunter:
    o6qrwihb506y.png

Contrast that to the picture of my outfit above, with no glowing weapon enchants.

I'm all fine with a toggle to toggle it completely on or off, but the fact of the matter is that for the entirety of this game's life up until Summerset, weapon enchant effects have ALWAYS been toggled off when the weapon is not wielded, the time between Summerset and Wolfhunter is the anomaly where weapon enchant effects were ALWAYS turned on. We're basically just back to the state of visuals we had before Summerset, so while you may complain about that if you will, they did fix what was a bug from Summerset up until now.

I don't like a bugged glow only present in re-styled weapons and in no way of the color I prefer.

This was a BUG that needed correction, how nice was one of my characters all blue-themed with a giant orange-glowing staff on the back.

I would like to have an option for glowing effects but something well done! A buggy thing is not a feature, it's a buggy thing.

A dedicated interface to add glowing to weapons and armor piece (where and IF in my taste, about which parts and which colors), that would be more than welcome.

Exactly. You can see on the pic above how the otherwise stylish blue/silver Ordinator outfit is ruined by a huge, glowing orange staff on the back. I'm glad they fixed this as well, so it at least only glows when the staff is wielded and drawn. More customization is always nice, forced visuals are not so nice.

Weapons not hidden by an outfit will show the enchantment shader when drawn. Weapons altered by the outfit system followed this rule when it first launched, but weapons edited by an outfit lost their glow at all times when the hotfix for bar-swapping was implemented. Then they were changed to show enchantment shaders at all times, and are now back to how they were originally -- and how they were meant to be, it seems.

Its not really surprising, the ones not entirely happy with something will be the most vocal about the change and reading this thread its evident some were not happy with the glow which is why you saw people complain.

I think most people know how it was prior to summerset and even if it was a bug, I think a number still liked the effect, myself included so its a shame they removed it / fixed the bug. We (well reading the rest of the thread) are not saying make it so the glow / forced visuals is kept for everyone, but just turn it to a toggle to make everyone happy.
