Is 5pc Infallible Aether still viable?

I'm working on a magNB for PVE DPS - I dont have sets like Master Architect (perfect for magNBs) so I was considering alternatives:
How about Julianos on body, IA on jewellery and fire staff (front) and fire VMA staff at the back?
If not, how could I incorporate BSW instead of IA?

IA only really performs well when you're heavy attacking regularly like on a pet sorc build, on a mag nb with a LA rotation, it probably won't be as good as other sets.
BSW staff and Jewels is a solid option, though will work far better with Siroria over Julianos

Not for a magblade. It's wonderful on my Templar DPS/Healer (SPC+Infal) and Sorc DPS, but it would not serve a magblade well. A properly built magblade should rarely heavy attack.

It's also best to make sure that only one person is running it in any kind of group content.

In that case, what gear would you suggest for someone who doesn't have Master Architect? Julianos on body and BSW on front bar? Can BSW be procced by things like light fame attacks or flame glyphs or only flame abilities? Because in that case my magNB can only proc it off wall of elements...

Not the best and most obvious choice for sure, but it is decent. MagNB isn’t really heavy attack focused so you won’t find it that useful. BSW is a better choice imo, but you could also consider Mother’s Sorrow, Siroria, Master Architect, even Acuity. I used IA on MagNB for quite some time a few months back and I have to say there were better options even then. Not a bad set but there are better suited ones for that class.

Hadn't considered Mother's Sorrow... would you have it slotted on your front bar only?

Yes, I would do that. In fact, I do. I personally use Sorrow front bar inferno staff + jewelry, Master Architect body pieces, vMA staff on back bar.

If you don't have a vma staff, try having your 2 staves be Julianos for the time being. I'll be honest, farming BSW staves is a nightmare.

I switch between it and Siroria depending on the fight and my group. If no-one is wearing it in my group I'll throw it on. Or if the fight isn't stationary, like cloudrest or asylum. On the dummy, I pull around 500 more DPS with Infal over Siroria.

I believe BSW + Mothers Sorrow will be your best combination in terms of DPS.

Siroria, and Master Arch are pretty situational, imo.. Siroria is a good DPS increase in stationary fights, and Master Arch is still solid but is mainly used in raid groups to give the 5pc bonus to your friends as well as yourself, since your incap ulti(cant remember the magicka version name) is so cheap.

I think the "best" way to run BSW and MS is BSW jewels + inferno front bar and VMA Inferno back bar with mothers sorrow on the body. But swapping it is still just as good ( i personally do MS Inferno + Jewelry).

I run bsw, sorrow front vma inferno backbar + skoria. Infused staves, flame glyph front, wpn back. Solid dps. vma bosses melt.

On a mag sorc, non-pet. But with a few exceptions, you can interchange sets between the two to similar results.

the set is 1 of the best in game for 4 man content. if you add the 10% damage the other ppl in group are getting it more than makes up for any of its shortcomings.

Good for petsorc. I run ia with necro and illambris. Dual lightning staff with flame enchant on one to help proc the monster set. I have “better” gear for my petsorc, but rarely stray from this setup for pve. Being mage guild 10 helps if you slot degeneration. It’s a fun build

The good thing about IA is that the up-time of minor vulnerablity can be 100%. The normal up-time of off-balance is a lot less so the difference can be quite significant. Even if you lower your dps by adding a heavy attack in your rotation the other people in your group will deal more dmg.

I havent tested if the increased resource return also works for the entire duration. If thats the case sustain would become a lot easier and the set becomes even more valuable.

I still use it on my sorc. This is a multifaceted thing though. The sorc heavy attacks every rotation and also gets heals in addition to the dps from the crit chance IA has. Using mother sorrow / IA is more about the heals than dps for me. I think BSW / necro has better dps. Lastly, I am one of the lower DPS more utility players in my raid group so loosing a tiny bit from me to get the 100% up-time on the 8% dps buff for the big dogs is not much of a sacrifice.

Of course, there is less synergy between mNB and everything else as well. The high magica damage, relatively low DOT components, non-pet, ranged, and mobile, natures of mNB are not much catered too by any sets. The good sets pretty much all proc or require something that mNB's don't do. Since they changed the whole scathing / twisting path nexus no set has really screamed mNB to me. IA might be close to anything else that you can be mobile with I haven't really tested it.
