Will we ever be able to sort our characters?

I would love to be able to sort my characters selection screen to most played to least played. With this ever be a thing here?

Best we have is "maybe one day?"

Heh this just made me remember that this was actually a quite common complaint in WoW too and it took them about 7 years until they finally implemented it.

yeah, I remember asking for the team who finally did it, and they sent me an excel list containing the names.
So I opened the list and tried to sort them by last name.
Guess what.. Excel bugged out, cleared the list and none of the team members has ever been seen again!

I'm afraid we'll be forever stuck with unsortable MMO character selection screens..unless these guys are found again.

I wouldn't object to it, but then I wouldn't want them to drop other stuff to prioritise it either. Whichever character I want to play is only a single click away wherever he or she is on the screen and that isn't going to change with any sorting so it's never bothered me. I do appreciate that for some it's more significant, however.

At least the character that defaults is the last played. Which for the vast majority of players is the one they want to log in with anyway.

What would actually be far more useful for me is a drop down menu on the launcher to let me select which account to log in with. That would really save time as it wouldn't be necessary to type in the account name every time I log in with the other account from the one I last logged in.

Any ideas why ZOS doesn't even care to respond or tell us why they haven't yet implemented such a basic feature in 4 years now?

Seriously, this is something that I can see putting off and not doing at launch, but it should have been done already.

The account name is actually in plain text in the UserSettings.txt. You can easily make copies of that and copy them over the original depending on what you want (and do this with a little .BAT script on Windows for example)

maybe ZOS still thinking:
1) should we implement it server-side or client side?
2) server side implementation will add (modify table) extra bytes to the player data table. maybe it is hard to add extra fields?
3) client-side implementation is much better, unless you play the game on several devices. (home, job, etc)
4) maybe they already have plans for it, and they are much better than we can imagine and all we need is just wait future updates...

I'd be surprised to see it at all, but not at all surprised if/when it happens they do it in a way that still doesn't make us happy.

Specifically, they'll somehow not get that we want to be able to rearrange them MANUALLY, based on our own criteria for what order our characters are listed in.

Only for crowns ofcourse. Now don't act so privileged and buy 3000 crowns, servers are expensive and ZoS needs money.

I've wanted this so long that it no longer matters. Even if they did add it now, I am so used to how my characters are arranged on my main account that I probably wouldn't change them. My 3 alt accounts have had their characters deleted and rearranged how I wanted long ago since I had no real vested time on the characters.

Its server side. They just have to add a field to the database to denote character positions, tweak the ui and its done. It should have been done at Launch. We should not have had to wait 4 years for this.

Id love to see this happen. and while they are at it I wish we could look at what armor/weapons and other things while at the select screen

Devs don't respond on the forums. Also like a previous poster said it took Blizzard 7+ years before they did this in WoW. Should it, could it have been in at launch sure. Is it important though on any scale not at all.

I din't say if it's important or not, nor said they must respond in the forums either, and this is not WoW.

So, regardless importance, if so many people have been asking this for years, they can, at least, provide some info in ESO Live or so (as they usually do), so we know if they are working or thinking on implementing this, or not.

Because they are never doing anything like that? Okay, it's not completely true, there is at least one dev who wrote in the forum before, but usually none of the devs are here. I'm not even sure that they are reading the forum, or they just get reports from the CMs about the most popular requests.

Again, I didn't mention responding in the forums. They usually respond in ESO Live what we ask here or anywhere.
