Looking For Advice From Veteran ESO Players

BiggShooter
I’ve been playing ESO for the past few months after not playing for quite a long time. I found a post [What Order Should I Do ESO Story Arcs? A Guide] in regards to a coherent, cohesive, immersive storyline that spans the entire continent. I’m a level 43 DragonKnight (Imperial Race) and chose the Ebonheart Pact Alliance. I’ve almost completed the entire Main Quest and just started the ‘Messages Across Tamriel’ quest and just completed one (of the many) Coldharbor Quests required to complete the Main Quest.

I haven’t even begun adventuring / doing quests in Eastmarch or The Rift. I completed the Fighters Guild quests and have about 50% of Mages Guild quests left to do. I’m wondering if I should hold off on completing the Main Quest, and continue adventuring / doing quests in Eastmarch and The Rift and complete the Mages Guild quests?

Yes, I’m that guy that doesn’t want to “skip ahead” or do something out of order / miss doing something I should’ve done. I’m looking for some direction as to how I should proceed to keep the “coherent, cohesive, immersive storyline that spans the entire continent”.

Thanks for taking time to reply.

+1. I believe according to the pre-1T update, this is how you had to do it and therefore thats how the story arch should go. So if you want to get on the railroad quest line, you'll want to completely finish out the alliance zone quests
Drathus Delenu- Dunmer magDk: Shehai Shatterer, Mageslayer, Stormproof, Peak Scaler, Clockwork Confounder, Orderly, Master Wizard, Cloudrest Hero, Undaunted, Dragonstar Arena Champion
    Thoronir Rolston- Breton petsorc: Stormproof
Zaakazha-Redguard stamblade: Boethia's Scythe, Clockwork Confounder, Maelstrom Arena Champion, Dragonstar Arena Champion

    Scrubs:
    Justinius Maximus Decimus- Altmer magblade
    Agronak gro'Mashul- Orc DK Tank
    Valerya Hawkcroft- Breton healer
    Zaaka- Imperial stamDK/crafter

The Rift storyline deals with the Worm Cult and has recurring characters from Eastmarch. So yeah, Id recommend that you do Eastmarch, then The Rift, then Coldharbor.

Also, keep in mind there is more than one story line in this game. There are kind of three tiers of story lines. There is the main story line, that you appear to be asking about. But there is also the different guild story lines, like mages guild, fighters guild, Psijic, etc. story lines. Then there a ton of just kind of random quests you find all over the place, sometimes if very remote and random places.

Sounds like you want to make sure you make it through the quest line that is given at The Harborage. But that is just a part of the main story line.

From what you describe that you want, I agree with others in that I'd pause Coldharbour until you complete the questlines in your final alliance zones (Eastmarch & The Rift) as well as the FG and MG. By doing so, I think you'll enjoy how Coldharbour ties pieces from your alliance questing, FG and MG experience all together with the Prophet/5 Companions aspects of the Coldharbour questline. Enjoy!

I think you can use the achievement information panel for this. Select Cadwell's and it should show in order the zones & quest arcs for the main quest, silver & gold. I could be wrong but I swear I use it at times to pick up storyline/skill point quests if I have not played a toon for a while. In my opinion that feature could use more detail.

UESP has a list of all the quests and in which order they come, useful for when you do the other alliances. I only say this because the 'auto-select' for quests is a bit wonky and sometimes you need to manually pick up the next quest. It is usually obvious (new quest giver stands nearby) but not always.

If you've started 'Messages Across Tamriel' you've satisfied all of the requirements to go on and complete the Main Story quest. Because you have to complete either 'Council of the Five Companions or the final Alliance Quest to unlock that particular quest in the Main Story line. There was never a requirement to do the Fighters Guild or the Mages Guild quests to complete the Main Story quest, but it made sense to.

But because you are "that guy that doesn't want to skip ahead", you should do the Alliance (Ebonheart Pact), Fighters Guild, and the Mages Guild quest lines before you proceed to Coldharbour because you will want to be very skilled and have every available resource at your disposal before going further into Coldharbour.

My advice that i give to all new players that want the proper storyline experiences...

Follow your alliance main quest line, which they generally point you in the right direction. Do the harborage (prophet) quests every 10 levels. This will line line you up for the final act succinctly since cold harbor is required before the big finale with the harborage quest line.

Coldharbour and Harborage quests are both in the Main story quest line. They were originally gated at every 5 levels. The ideal pace would be 2 Main story quests per zone, that is a 10 levels per zone pace. Then you will have completed 'Council of the Five Companions' at approximately the same level as completing your final alliance quest. Then after Stirk the next zone will be Coldharbour.
