Ok, I've been playing for a few weeks now, and yes, if I don't like what my character (izzat a toon?) doesn't seem to be developing the way I want; I make another. I have been playing single player games for decades, and have one major question. What is the purpose/goal of this game, (or games, it does seem to be multiples)? Is there some final goal or accomplishment? Or is it more of a just keep playing along, getting stronger, better, etc. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy just playing the game, it's just that I see many who seem to have defined the game as simply developing Superman/Superwoman. Just wondering, and I realize that asking for the Readers Digest version gives away my age.

I'm like you. I've played single-player games for years. This is my first MMO.

Unlike single-player games, Elder Scrolls Online doesn't have a final goal or overall purpose. It's a game world meant to be played with others for enjoyment.

As long as Zenimax keeps the servers open, and as long as they continue to provide new content to play, the game is, in essence, endless.

Keep in mind that the best gameplay comes from playing with friends. It is possible to get tremendous enjoyment playing solo, developing your character(s) to end-game status, but you'll miss out on the teamwork and camaraderie of a multi-player game. I hope you come to love ESO as myself and so many others have :)

There are a number of quest lines that, in essence, can provide end goals that are similar to what single player games offer.

Go through the main storyline quest to reclaim your soul and stop Molag Bal's planemeld plans.

Complete the Morrowind quests. They're pretty cool, and provide some nostalgia if you played the original Morrowind.

I enjoyed all the guild quest lines well enough, too. They're a little short compared to a full fledged single player game, but are worth doing.

For all this game's faults, it does provide a tremendous quantity of content compared to most single player games. I just wish the quality were handled with a bit more care, personally.

To directly answer your question, I guess it's a no. There's no single "this is the ultimate goal" point to aim for. You participate in the content that appeals to you. For most players, end game ends up being competitive Trials and/or PvP.

The real Goal of every mmorpg is chase carrots on a stick (gear levels and stats) pretty much.. While spending a crap load on the company supplying the mmorpg..

Secondary goal is socializing and wasting time..

If those aren't enjoyable to you i'd say play something else... I will say though after playing hundreds of mmorpg, ESO is one of the more solo friendly mmo's out to date..

    Neverwinter is another.

The end goal of the game is making a super op pvp build and doing vet pve trials. Just have fun and enjoy is the main thing. After all Tiber Septim is coming to conquer the land soon :D
