I don't think it's allowed to discuss cheatpads and macro devices in the official forums of a game...

Please keep cheating to the PC race, leave console out of it.

Please explain how this is cheating and where I can read up on that? I never heard of using a keyboard and mouse as "cheating".

You're using hardware not accessible to all console players that includes a 'turbo' function to allow rapid trigger of controller buttons, macros to allow preset button combinations assigned to a single key and a dpi setting to allow greater accuracy than provided by a gamepad stick.

There isn't any way you COULDN'T consider that cheating

Or to put it more succinctly:

Rapid firing a button or buttons wouldn't benefit anything as there is a global cool down of skills.

Well I guess that settles it then lol. I would never intentionally cheat so I won't be using this. I never thought of it as being unfair, I was just trying to use it since I like keyboards better. Not worth getting banned, that's for sure. Thanks for the help guys!

Well technically, as long as you don't use the macro, turbo or DPI functions, you don't have an advantage...

I'd very strongly suggest you check with ZOS support, rather than just believing that. The cited section of the ToS is accurate, but I don't think the analysis of how it applies to the use of a keyboard/mouse with ESO on XBox is accurate.

Specifically, if you just use it like a regular keyboard, where pressing one physical key on it sends one physical key signal -- like pressing one button, once -- to the game, I'd absolutely expect this to be fine with ZOS.

So, before you ditch the hardware, ask directly the support team. They will give you a relatively definitive answer on "is using a keyboard at all cheating", and just make sure you don't use macros or anything like that with it to stay on the right side of the rules.

Obviously like previous comments, I can't say for certain because I am not ZOS, but ... I'd definitely ask them, not just random forum folks like me. :)

    Really?

So hitting Psijic > Imbue Weapon > (Rapid Fire) Light Attack wouldn't allow you to add 3K damage to as many hits as you could cram into two seconds?

Or Storm Calling > Overload > (Rapid Fire) Light Attack wouldn't allow you to roll off 18K plus per tick until you ran out of Ultimate?

And that's just two I can think of, because essentially anything you can apply to buff a light attack can be augmented by rapid fire.

So yeah, it absolutely DOES make a difference...

As I said, as long as you're not using the macro, rapid fire or DPI functions, it's technically an 'alternative controller' - certainly this appears to be the view regarding overall Xbox mouse and keyboard support (due in a couple of months or so). ZOS will be able to answer this directly, but as long as it doesn't '... in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities, or influence or advantage Your use of the Services. ...', you should be good to go.

How is this any different from 3rd party apps on pc, which seem to be encouraged by zos

Third party applications are absolutely not encouraged, except under the same terms as I noted above: they don't make any material change in the interaction between player and game. So, software that remaps keys into a different keyboard layout or something? Fine.

Macros, multi-key sending when you hit one, etc? Nope. Not at all.

Unless you mean "addons", rather than third party applications, in which case they also are permitted ... and also cannot do any of the things that ZOS does not approve of, so cannot be used to, eg, automate gameplay in any way, trigger multiple actions, etc.

Totally this. Detailed version in my comments above, but seriously, people, using a keyboard on XBox? Fine. Totally fine. Absolutely fine.

Also, also, if you are really concerned, write ZOS support and have them tell you it is fine.

'You agree not to use any hardware or software or any other method of support that is not authorized by ZeniMax or that may in any way influence or advantage Your playing abilities, or influence or advantage Your use of the Services.'

If it falls under this category, no, you can't

If your just using it without any kind of additional software or firmware to enhance your playstyle (such as rapid key triggers or macros), then it's just another input type. In that case it's no different from using a specialised controller or remapping your buttons to suit your style.

Not 'bad information' - in the Terms of Service...

So, you want me to spend $99 on a peripheral AND break my Terms of Service agreement just to prove a point to you?
