used to ESO crashing/losing connection all the time but missing textures on character select screen?

I'd turned down graphics for midyear mayhem Cyrodiil lagfestival fun. Still losing connection and/or crashing. Rarely the .exe simply doesn't launch with various errors on popups. Sometimes it doesn't make it to character select. Sometimes it crashes on character select or loading into any area. Sometimes just for fun when getting a survey - today it was just north of that town in the middle of stonefalls. Just standing there, looking at a mudcrab. Bam crashed. Trying to log on each character to get hireling mails I crashed 5 times (out of 15 characters). Weirdly, I managed to PvP for many hours on Sunday without crashing, although there was certainly no let up in the one second delay in all skills activating. Then, alone, nowhere near a fight... load screens. This might actually be a bit more annoying than that 3 week period when everything in Cyrodiil was 10 FPS. But I'd never, ever seen or even heard of missing textures on the character load screen.
