How do you handle fake tanks

Most of us probably now know what we define ourselves as a fake tank. But what do you do when you encounter them?

I queue as actual tank, so it’s no issue to me

I selected the wrong option.........

I´m the fake tank. But only for random normal (need that daily extra exp). Would never queue as a tank for veteran dungeons unless I´m actually on my tank. And if I do a random normal and end up in DLC dungeon I just leave.

As long as they have the decency to slot a taunt, I pretty much always roll with it -- no matter how good or bad they are as an actual tank. But if they don't taunt, I don't care if they do 50k dps all by themselves, I vote to kick them just for disrespecting all the other players who queue up honestly and wait their turn.

I have been in pugs where the "tank" had 16k health, but DID taunt, AND tanked bosses like a champ, WHILE doing 30ish K dps. In a vet dungeon, no less. There are people who can pull it off, and more power to them if they're capable and cool about it. To me it's more about the attitude than anything else.

Entitled jerk dps who roll in with the "we don't need a tank here anyway" attitude are ejected; because if the dungeon is easy enough to really not need a tank, then we don't need them either!

I thank Meridia for blessing me with a fake tank. Tanks are not required for any of the non dlc dungeons, and those I never queue for.

Without a tank and healer the dungeon just gets cleared a little faster usually.

The thing with Fake tanks or easy to clear is missing the fact that people actually like the setup of a 4 person group all doing their designed part regardless of how easy it is. Its just not the same experience if it is al about easy fast clearance.

In dungeons even most vet ones non dlc I don't really care, I religiously keep empowered ward up all the time and have some form of self heal so I just completely ignore what the tank and healer are doing. Ive never once argued with random people on this game and I'm not about to start doing it, I only kick people who are afk with no reason or dc for too long.

Just try to make the best out of it. If they don't tank, I will just switch some skills around, maybe some gear too and done. Especially with random groups, you can't expect everybody to perform excellently.

While its a but of a *** move to cut in line, I hang around. UNLESS they are the kind of fake tank that sprints to each boss sending every mob and encounter back to the three people actually playing, usually needing to be resurected when we catch up.

If the content doesn't require a tank and the fake tank is good at killing stuff and staying alive, we're ok. Just breeze through this dungeon, have some loot and be done with it. Everyone is happy. If the fake tank is dying over and over again on the last boss, but the group is really nice and can handle the fight without one constantly dead member, we're ok. Let's just call that a small carry and put the fake into ignore after the fight. If the fake tank is bad at everything and we really need a full-time tank to play through the content we're playing - kick the fake. If the fake tank is not the only issue with the group, I just leave myself. Then I'm ok and the group I left can do whatever.
(I'm talking only about vet dungeons here.)

Really depends ... Sometimes for normal non dlc dungeon I register as all roles to get quickly in but for my defense its enough to spam vigor as dd to keep everybody alive and I could easily handle the content on my own.

For dlc or vet dungeons I keep my dd role and I really love to have a good tank and heal so I can focus on the dps.

It all depends. If it’s random normal non DLC, or premade, 4 DPS can make an extremely quick run; then can swap to another toon and do it again.

In normals, I don't care to be honest. Whatever.
In vet, if they taunt and don't let the boss run loose (outside of mechanics where they do that) - that's fine.

In Vet DLCs: I don't pug those and if you do, good luck!

I'm missing the option "respond with fakehealing" which usually solves the problem pretty fast

thats why i dont pug. even amongst my friends and guildies, most vet dungeons can be done with 4 great dps, but some with a tank make it a lot easier

For myself I’m normally the tank these days. I’ve only really been experiencing it recently because I decided to try healing again, mostly to see if being tank was somehow screwing with my RNG to get SPC boots to drop. Seems it wasn’t as it still took 20 runs to get them.

Having said that and while I’m quite harsh on thinking fake tanks are not acceptable, I did always see how it went and it was mostly not a major issue, think we only kicked 2 of the 18 fake tanks in that time.

For me I mostly object in principal. It’s just so disrespectful to say to the other dps “I deserve a shorter queue than you”. I also think that fake tanks are most annoying to a healer, which is already a role that feels terrible in ESO.

other tanks? probably not, queue times are always short for tanks
other dds? no no, quite the opposite: 2 dds (or 3 if a fake-healer is thrown into the mix ) were just taken off the top of the stack, so no more waiting for them and less waiting for the rest!

The fake tank gets in instantly, the other dps in the group waited far longer. The fake dps avoids that queue while the honest ones wait. That’s not hard to understand.

Slot a taunt on my dps and carry. Is it fair the person skipped queue? No. Is it fair of me to impose justice on a group that may not give a crap? No, especially if they don't want to wait.

So don't worry, you'll always have a real tank with me, one way or the other

I only do dungeons with my long time friends where I am usually the healer or the tank depending who is on. When things go bad with me as the tank I blame the healer and when things go bad as the healer I blame the tank!!

Joking aside I really do only group with my friends and truth be told our biggest issue is dps standing in crap.

If they don’t taunt, even have the slightest bit of tankiness, or even pull their weight in damage I get a little annoyed. Had a guy with a pvp build last night que as a tank and he wanted to farm gear. Carried him anyways.

Pugging is signing a contract to allow anyone to be grouped with you. For most content you shouldn't need a tank in the first place. You probably shouldn't be pugging the content that does actually *need* a tank in the first place.

Do mutter slightly if the fake tank that my replacement is filling in for was kicked after a pledge-credit boss
it really just means having to drop the quest and retake it before queuing
am willing to run hard mode for multiple pug groups, but finishing the bosses out of order means not receiving hardmode credit for the pledge
