Why is PvP so laggy and how to fix it?

I dont understand why, ZoS your game is honestly the BEST MMO. I love ESO and so does thousands of people. PvP is SO much fun and most people stay playing PvE because they dont want to deal with the lag. New players in PvP obviously goes in zerg because theyre new. And we all know Zerg = Lag. I am a solo PvP player i tend to stay away from zerg or get in cyrodiil at night where its less laggy. Furthermore I want to know how you guys can fix this? Is it the megaserver? Is it us? Our internet connection? I play with 15Mbps (not MB/s) and i heard its enough to play MMO. Can we also reduce lag by giving us option to tone down the graphics? I have always played solo and mosty gets zerged down while trying to find good fights. But zerging can also be fun and fast paced but its nearly impossible with the lag and delays. I barely take keeps and i hate zergs but im not going to lie, those keep fights are lit! I hope you guys can fix this lag issue for it has been in PvP since release

Pve has lag too, just saying lol

And the lag hasn't always been there. It was introduced with the lighting patch (1.5?) Though they deny that. Before that patch we had 500v500v500 in pvp woth insanely large scale battles and very minimal lag.

ok i thought so. i use to play this back in 2015 but stopped playing and didnt get into it until last year. I remember playing Blackwater Blade back in 2015 and not lagging as much

Yes, it was most definitely that awful lighting patch. There's no way around it, ZOS doesn't learn from their mistakes, and the moderating team hides all of the complaints before anybody there can even see it.

They're in their own little echo chamber of good feels, pretending everything's hunky-dory while their product, again, pushes away more customers.

Zenimax needs to focus on alternate PVP modes, it's obvious Cyrodiil is not going anywhere positive anytime soon.

They need to improve IC as much as they can, and then shift focus on BGs, Arenas and 'maybe' even dueling if it's salvageable.

Just because one PVP mode cannot be improved, there's no reason others shouldn't be explored and developed further. I'd also like to see some Daedric realm style BGs and Arenas (PVP), that would be great.

@LegendaryMage No need to focus dueling. We, the community, already do that. We make our own dueling tournaments and arenas. BG is already fine. IC is dead. Cyrodiil COULD be fun if the lag was less. Anyways i was thinking they should do a league of legends/DoTa/Smite gameplay i think its called "MOBA" its a 3v3 - 5v5 taking an enemy base with ads spawning in to help you. and also there are NPC bosses in the map where you can get an item, potion, or buffs. its a 35-60 minute gameplay match. That would be legit

Remove all these cancer builds and it might work, but I dont see it working very well UNLESS they had actual smart match making.

I would still use a graphical option that just made everyone a simple red, yellow or blue texture, rather than having to load whatever they actually look like. It's just not an available option.

Dueling would be much more fun if it was like it was years ago in Cyro.

Sure, there were imbalances but people were genuinely having fun. Builds were important even then, but the game had many more counter-mechanics and builds were generally easier on the game.

Now it's complete extremes where you have to have a 100% dedicated build to counter the very next guy because he's doing it too.

The community doesn't want to bother, my guild has organized more tournaments on PC EU than probably most megaservers combined, and I can tell you it's an epic hassle and not worth it in the long run.

We need Zenimax to back us up here and stop trying to go around everything and somehow make it work on our own.

    Moba style matches, I don't see that happening in ESO, BGs are the closest thing to that. Cyro will not significantly change for a long time (if ever, it's been 4 years now) and all we're left with is;

    1. BGs.
    2. Possible PVP Arenas with 1v1, 2v2, 4v4 modes.
    3. Larger Scale BGs (8v8 maybe).
    4. Open World PVP that was supposed to be introduced with the justice system, but we all know how that went.

So at this point, I'm like, whatever, forget about Cyro, let's just focus on what 'could' work.

ZOS must get rid of the lighting patch : https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/113161/patch-notes-v1-2-3

There are other ways to improve the lighting.

Also they must remove the existing bs anti cheat system . They can implement another one.

After these things done you will see how wonderful and no laggy Cyrodiil is.

P.S They must improve their servers too .

We will have real large battles again ( yes , hundreds of people on the same screen). Pvp will be like it was before ...and how it was advertised before and after ESO launch.

Sad to say, but I think you are right. Sadly I only started ESO because I wanted a game with massive keep sieges and massive 3-way battles.

The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Yeah man, I've been here since betas. People are under false impressions that somehow the game was better then, or before the infamous lighting patch, it's all nonsense really. It was always a laggy mess, players just have bad memory.

That's why I'm all for ignoring Cyro and working on what shows at least some perspective. It's a shame to let PVP die out over time.

I saw AngryJoe's eso pvp youtube video there were atleast a hundred of them marching on their horse and sieging a keep. His game crashed later on but their wasnt really much lag. unlike how it is now where if there are 30 people sieging a keep itd be laggy and their would be frame drop

its not just the cookie cutter/ cancer builds ruining pvp, its also the way alot play at the mo up to 50 on 1 iam all for big battles i luv them but when you see an entire group change direction to kill 1 character thats wrong, also the removing of macro and cheat engine but that will never happen

There was as much lag as is now, the game was just much slower, animations in 1.5 and before are not the same as 1.6 and after.

Servers were crashing often, rollbacks were rampant, it was a mess just like it is now. The amount of lag was horrendous, in betas there was so much lag that abilities weren't firing off even after 30-40 seconds. Then everything would speed up while the server tries to catch up with all input.

One video does not demonstrate how the performance was at that time. If you think the game was performing well or 'much better' than now, you're absolutely wrong.
