Race against Time vs Elusive Mist (as pertains Magicka Templars)...

Both Race against Time and Elusive Mist are excellent abilities to slot for a Magicka Templar, and both have differing pro's and con's, but with that said, which do you feel is the superior ability or do you feel that they are roughly equal?

Please explain why you feel the way you do...

Elusive mist is better for getting out of a fight and race against time is better for getting to a fight. Getting out of a fight is more important than getting to one in my opinion. You can also block cancel mist form and keep the major expedition which isn't as cost effective as race against time, but it's still useful in a pinch.

If you really need to get away, Elusive Mist is superior due to the immobilize/snare immunity and 75% damage reduction. It can also get you through breaches and siege .

RAT is much better for using while actually fighting due to the much lower cost (EM cost more than 2k more and costs you 2 ticks of regen which will be at least another 2k for a total of more than 4k higher cost), being able cast other skills, and the crit damage buff.

Really depends on the situation you find yourself in most often.

CC immunity is a boon. Race Against Time has none. And Mist Form provides protection despite being slower. But Mist Form is more of a repositioning tool while RAT can be used to escape also.

Both have strengths, but in terms of kiting and staying alive Mist > all. You can entirely shrug a burst combo if you see it coming. If you run SnB and Channeled Focus, Mist can be the secret to nearly infinite sustain.

IMO the extra mitigation from Mist could be toned down a bit but I don't think too many people would agree with me on that.

Snare immunity doesn't work properly, I get snared in Mistform all the time. The immunity to root/immobilize/hard cc is a lifesaver though and makes the ability clearly superiour to a mere runspeed buff unless you wanna chug pots 24/7.

Entrapment poisons! They haven't been fixed

The blockade is how it is being applied.

It'll also root you during a dodgeroll, cutting the distance in half and making it completely worthless (the roll)

As long as it's not fixed, it's a great way to proc Doyle

    Thanks for the responses guys...

It seems that an overwhelming majority here feel Elusive Mist is the superior ability to which I agree...

Yes, there are still some bugs that allow someone in Mist Form to be snared, but by and large the ability does its intended function and grants CC/Snare/Immobilization immunity as well as provides the ability to withstand an opponents killing burst (I cant count the number of times I've rendered a Sorcs burst combo with Meteor basically wasted with Mist Form) and this is huge...

When you add in Mist Forms ability to allow you to get through a breach, then (IMO) Race against Time's benefits become overshadowed by what Elusive Mist provides...

I greatly prefer elusive mist for group play on a support build, as I don't need the crit and can't always afford to spend the stam to sprint to catch up to my group.

Elusive mist also a lot more mobility in a few situations (snare heavy fights, breaches).

Race Against Time has been great as a mobility skill when solo, though, as it lets me keep fighting or healing while moving--and I don't have to worry about getting cut off from my group because, well, no group.

Mist is great for avoiding snares/damage.
Accelerate is faster cause of sprint and lets you cast.

Whatever fits your play style. I find I used Mist as a crutch too often before I dropped vampire. And it made me essentially useless in the fight for the duration. I prefer to actually do the Channeled Acceleration morph. 45% resistance with Wizard's Riposte is enough to keep you alive for the channel, then you are off like a bat out of hell. Pus you can heal and rebuff while running.

Still, for pure on-demand survivability, Mist is superior because it's instant and just one button.

both have uses that are completely different from each other:
    - mist reposition tool and capless snare/immobilze removal tool with 75%+ mitigation (if you also consider undead passive) that rivals block mitigation.
    - RAT is a self buff minor force with a small speed component spell. You basically trade mobility immunity and 75% mitigation for 10% extra crit dmg, a bubble shield on block, and 50% sprint reduction.

If you sprint ALOT and have alot of GCD ignoring dots, RAT is better for you. If you take more hits while moving or don't have access to mobility immunity, mist is better.
