whites look blue on some leathers and metal. the dyes work, just come material looks better then others with some dyes. More so if the dye or material has a sheen to it.

Keep in mind that dyes change color a bit depending on the material they are applied on. That is because rarer dyes tend to have a shine or a tint towards some other color. Some gear has more shiny parts, others are just dull, and will make dyes look very bland. An example of a very bad material is the imperial cloth.
If you are looking for white, there is a comparison at the end of my post linked above. Some whites are harder to get, like Palatine white, which requires to obtain that pvp rank.

Dyes ending up an unexpected color depending on what armor/costume you put it on has been a thorn in the side of this game's fashion scene since its inception. I really hope they do it over at some point.
