If you look to your right immediately after Lyris gets you out, you see a group of other prisoners holding the door while you escape. I always took this to suggest that the prison revolt/mass escape was orchestrated as a distraction, to provide cover for Lyris' attempt to free the Prophet. Those other prisoners gave their lives to get the Prophet out. Maybe some few of them managed to escape in the end, but I suspect most gave their lives for the sake of Lyris' plan.
Writing about this makes me nostalgic. That intro quest is so much better than the Morrowind/Summerset tutorials, and one of the most epic intro quests in the whole TES series.

Er-Jaseen! He used to play a bigger role in breaking you out, in an earlier version of the quest. He'll always be a hero to me.If you look to your right immediately after Lyris gets you out, you see a group of other prisoners holding the door while you escape. One of the named prisoner (an argonian I think) actually appear in ES:Legends if I recall correctly. He is probably the only named other than you the player and Cadwell.
Not that I play ES:Legends or anything, but it is an interesting touch
