Lightning or Fire staff for back bar

So i dont really wanna do maelstrom arena again but ive heard fire staff is BiS for backbar these days since they nerfed off balance. Is it worth it to go back to maelstrom arena for a fire staff or is the difference minimal?

I would keep the lightning staff as long as you are not on a dk. Only place it's going to make a difference is score runs and such. Even for 4 man content the lightning staff should help keep concussion uptime and is better for trash fights anyways.

I think its worth it to always have one lightning wall in a group for off-balance. If someone else is using that I switch to fire, since it has higher base damage, especially if there is a DK in group using engulfing flames for 10% more fire damage.

The one time I break this rule is for content with a difficult execute phase. In this case, on my sorc I will use a lightning staff on the back bar even if someone else is using one. I do this to maximize my implosion procs, and each implosion proc hits hard with 3 Bloodthirsty jewelry. Over the entire duration of a fight I think the lightning is still a slight DPS loss, but the increase at the end makes it worth it for something like vAS+2 IMO.
