I took a long break from the game (2 years). In other words before crates even existed.

I was just very, very active on the forums from beta up til 2 years after launch

So every season has its own different type of crates. Fire atronach crates, then the Dwarven Crates, ScaleCaller Crates, Wild Hunt Crates. And so much more. They las for a long time, like 3 months. sorry for not being specific earlier!

So the only way to get Fire Atro crates is by leveling alts then? That kind of sucks, that's one I was hoping would come back after seeing the stuff

So far the seasons haven't repeated, but sometimes old crates will reappear in the crown store for limited time only sales. There seem to be around 4-5 crown crate seasons in a year, partly but not completely coinciding with new releases. Past Seasons here: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Crown_Crates

They've brought back past crates for a short period of time (a few days), so they'll almost certainly do it again.

I'll have to keep an eye on sales for Atro crates then. I main Mag Sorc so a Storm Atronach mount would be lovely!

Also pretty much the only mount that would make me put away my Senche, seeing as I'm very proud that I had been with the game long enough to have him

No i dont believe so. Fire atro crates i believe are gone for good. Unless its the ONE character you upgrade post CWC patch i believe? However yes crown seasons are about 3 months long and they do not return (Atleast none have yet to this day). If its mounts your after id suggest converting your junk items into crown gems as a normal Apex (season themed mount) is purchasable for 400 crown gems. However the Radiant Apex mounts (rarest of the rare, 3 per season) are only rng based. After the season is gone all mounts go out the window with it.

Crates have returned briefly I think twice now. Storm, Wild Hunt, and Dwemer were brought back to the store for about a week. Usually they're tied to events or anniversaries, but since it's never announced that far ahead I wouldn't hold my breath.

Fair warning. When they brought them back you couldn't buy things individually, just the crates themselves. So getting an apex mount that way will take a large number of crates.
