Different stories, each Alliance has it's own over-arching story. You can do all 3 with the same character though.

The only real material difference is what side you PVP on, Ebonheart is the strongest on PC-NA so if that's where you play, I'd go with that, I hear AD is strong on PC-EU so go with that if you play there that is, if you like PVP in MMOs.

Story-wise, you get to do all of them regardless of which you pick. In all seriousness, just go with what colour you like the best!

Each Alliance has its own story arch, and each zone is a chapter of it. Well the chapters can stand alone.

The new way of starting out kind of hides this from you. To experience the factions, go to:

1 Aldmeri Dominion Auridon Vulkhel Gaurd
2 Ebonheart Pact Stonefalls Davons Watch
    3 Daggerfall Covenent Glenumbra Daggerfall

Then look for Quest Givers. Note, some quest givers will want you to go to some DLC zone.

Each Alliance also has a starter area/island that sort of kicks off the story, however you can do any zone in any order you want.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

And if you bought Summerset, then your missing Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Imperial City, Wrothgar.

If you sub, you get access to these areas. Or you can buy them in the Crown Store as a bundle or individually

The 'zone-chapters' are a linear progression, but the game lets you do alot of it in any order.

I would recommend finding a guide that shows the Pre-1T quest order.

We all ask ourselves why we are forced to start in Summerset, its a marketing thing.

There are different versions of the game, but if you have Summerset, you have the latest version
Your only.missing the DLCs I talked about above.

I'm sad you bought eso on steam, those guys seem to be more fudged than pc EU server.

And pick whatever alliance you feel like.

Yep, no matter that newcomers are in perplexity, the profit must prevail. From the game design point of view such approach is just terrible. They should at least add some sort of in-game guide through the story. Even some kind of character's quest journal with some tips and explanations would be okay.

When they released the Big Morrowind Expansion they made new 'beginner tutorial' levels that shoved you right into the Big New Thing. Then, when they released the Big Summerset Expansion, they did that again.

If you find the Hooded Figure and take their quest, that will lead you to the original Main Story.

(Note that there is both a generic everyone-got-it Big Main Story questline, and a Big Main Faction storyline that trails through all five zones of a faction. Plus lots of sidequests in each zone. Plus Fighters & Mages Guild questlines. And then all the DLC zones, which are "after" the main story & faction questlines. Aaaaaaand..... since they made the game scaling & "go wherever you want", it's no longer clear what path to follow to do all that in the 'correct' narrative order. Yay!)

Between buying Summerset in Steam and having ESO+ membership, you have all you need. Unless you want to buy the same things all over again on a different account that doesnt require Steam, then answer is no. Do not buy from ESO store.
You have everything you need right now and are missing nothing. Time to stop buying and enjoy the game

Only real difference is PvP: blue and red losers combine theing powers against yellows. Enen with small groups of renegates stealing their fortresses (blue from reds or reds from blue), main forces never betrays their "alliance" against yellows.

    Rage mod 3,2,1...

    Nothing really. Races.

And the only winners are the Yellow.

    The rest are pointless.

^^^^^^^ All lies. This is typical propaganda that is spread by team Orange. Dont fall for it :p

Head to your starter island for your faction (I only know that it's kenaarthi's roost for AD) and start the story there. Just wander around looking for a quest marker over someone's head.

I started on summerset and played almost a month before realising I was going to be mucking up the storyline of the series.

The stuff in the earlier DLCs has already happened in the summerset timeline, so if you do summerset first then go to do the other stuff, it's just weird. Like going back in time.

Start at beginning and work your way through to summerset. If you want to enjoy the story that is!
