I was scammed pretty bad yesterday and it made me pretty angry, and let down. Yes, I know, I know, it’s my fault... blah blah blah.

But, I don’t want to see it happen to anyone else. So, is it a violation to name someone on here so nobody gets scammed by the same person?

One of, if not THE dumbest rule on gaming forums in general. Shaming people that cheat and scam should be allowed and endorsed imo. Nobody deserves to have their game time ruined by some *** who have nothing better to do with their lives. What's even worse the devs protect these guys with rules such as this one.

Naming and Shaming is not allowed.

However describing the process so others can be wary is a good thing. There are ways to conduct business that is safer than others.

However, do Report the Player if have their account name, not sure what it would do for this specific case, but ZOS might do something if enough reports are received.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

You can name anyone if you contact the community managers or customer support directly and privately.
You can't name anyone publicly, and no, it's not a dumb rule. Imagine an innocent being falsely accused by anyone with malicious intentions, or even raided in here ?

That’s what I don’t understand... why protect ppl like that? I’ve been around for a long time and this made ME want to uninstall... I can only imagine how it would make a newer player feel.

If I wasn’t on my “final warning”, I’d post his name at prime forum hours anyway...

The problem is that those same players who you want to name and shame could then come here and name and shame you for no reason. The no naming and shaming rule prevents trolling and prevents innocent people from being swept up in a smear campaign.

It's not a dumb rule. People can just as easily ruin someone's reputation by accusing them of cheating on the forums.

If someone scams/cheats/violates ToS the thing to do is report them to ZOS so they can investigate and take appropriate action.

Sure go ahead, name and shame me with zero evidence that's just going to backfire and you're going to end up being the one who's shamed. For those who would believe them without any evidence, well those people aren't that bright anyway and I probably don't care about their opinion.

If I have clear evidence of a cheater/scammer it's completely fine by me. I don't see how this is a problem.

ZOS almost never does anything about cheaters/bots/scammers and that fact is as clear as day. Otherwise we wouldn't have bots running around since the launch of the game. At first I reported them but then I realized it actually made no impact and they still keep doing it so eventually I just gave up.

The counter strike forums used to be full of people complaining about scammers but 9/10 of them were simply people who had gifted items away and not received what was promised in return which to me is more like breaking a gentleman's agreement rather than a scam. The only trick scam I can sort of remember in this game was quickly switching out items in player to player trading which is why I only ever cod items now when dealing 1 to 1.

You do know that ZOS can do a check and see if your 'evidence' is just a photoshopped image or an edited video or if that action actually happened in game?

They've been retrieving items that I lost like 5 months ago, they have everything that you've done in game stored somewhere in a database and they can take a look at it any time of the day to see if it's true or not. Therefore they can debunk any of the false accusations if they really want to, but I guess they're too lazy so they just implemented the classic 'NO NAMING AND SHAMING'.

    How?

Forget the person. Wouldn't it be more important to describe what you went through as to let others know not to fall for the same scam.

First of all, ZOS does not have the means to set up a justice department for ingame actions - nor should they use their funds for that purpose.
And secondly, no log or database can record what players do, promise or contract upon in TeamSpeak or Discord, or wherever outside the game.
You have no idea how many people exchange their login info, lend each other stuff or gold, then betray each other. No way ZOS can determine truth in these things. Not their job.

ZOS should post names of the convicts and the reason for ban here. Players shouldn't. Ideally we should have an external website made by us the players to list the scammers, cheaters, hackers, etc. Problem is that can be easily abused or mistaken and end up with innocent people's names in the list. We must press the developers to keep a transparent "justice" system. That's done in many games, mostly asian mmos and it's a help for the community.

If that were something you could do, just what is to stop someone from publically naming and shaming you or just doing it because they can even if there is nothing to back up the accusation?

    It is a slippery slope.

If the evidence is there doesn't that give purpose to the entire reporting system? Report the "scammer" or "cheat" and leave it at that.

Just stop complaining about it. You got scammed. That's life. Sorry it happened to you, but life isn't fair.

Greetings, just to clarify, we do have a no naming and shaming policy here on the ESO forums. This is for the exact reasons listed above, members could potentially falsely accuse other members. This would lead to forum and in game harassment. We highly encourage you to open a ticket and report any case of exploiting or cheating that you experience. Screenshots and videos are always very helpful. Thank you for checking the rules before posting. We appreciate it!
