Xbox or PC? (No hate, just interested in opinions!)

I originally played in the PC beta for ESO but I never actually played on launch w/ PC (no particular reason, it just didn't stick at the time). I started playing on the xbox last spring on and off, but I'm always wondering if I should go back to the PC version. The xbox version frustrates me in regards to text chat and the lack of active guild chats (unless you are in one of those rare guilds that use their voice chat outside of events). I mainly play ESO for the economy games (love playing the Traders) and exploration with a side of trials, but I am also a stay-at-home mom to a newborn so I love being able to pop into game and chat with an actual adult when she's napping/etc. Goo goo gaa gaa only gets you so far :-)

Would you recommend switching over to PC? I have a 410 champ on xbox but I wouldn't feel heartbroken having to go through progression again.

Not to brag or anything but, I play on xbox and stream it to my laptop. I feel playing straight up pc would make me come off as an elitist.

I tried ESO on PC when it first came out. I quit because of the subscription fee and just couldn't hack it. Not a keyboard and mouse player. So when it went to Xbox I played on there. Life happened so I played ESO on and off. Now that PC has Xbox One controller support I play on that now.

Only reason I play on PC instead of Xbox one is because of mods. I want my mini map. I do use a few other mods, but if Xbox One had the mini map I would start playing that more. I don't have a 4K tv but the Xbox One X streamed to my laptop looks really good. Almost as good as the PC on high settings. I am curious how ESO looks on a 4K tv.

Thing is, without my mini map, not sure if I can play on Xbox without my mini map. Graphics better dang kick arse if I am to give up my mini map. :)

I can't speak about the experience on Xbox because I have always been a PC player.

The only thing I can say is reading the issues that the Xbox version has plus the open voice chat, no text chat, and no addons, I'm glad I'm on PC.

My PC version, too unstable and screws up every time there's an update or anything new.

My xBox version has been nearly unplayable for years, far too unstable. That and the invasive nature of the MSNetwork.

PS4 has been relatively stable with few glitches and the network doesn't pester me every 10 seconds trying to sell me something.

Pc definitally for the addons plus you have more control on how it runs on your end. It is a shame they do not do transfers and probably never will for obvious reasons.

I wish the PC version had open voice chat. I play with the text off on PC. Would be nice to be able to chat and turn it on or off at will like consoles have.

The chat on console is buggy as hell and they never fix it and rarely acknowledge the problem. Basically, on xbox if you join a group it automatically puts you in group chat then when you want to switch back to guild the channels just vanish and you have to shut the game down to fix it. These issues have greatly reduced the people that use it.

Zone chat on PC is a bit of a mixed bag still. But there are plenty of good guilds. A lot of them use Discord for both voice and text chat. So what you see in the in-game text chat isn't all there is.

Performance-wise, I feel like PC is a little less laggy, especially during prime play times and events; I switched from XBox to PC shortly after One Tamriel and I like it better. Also, PC has addons. :)

The main thing is to find a guild where you're comfortable. One that's populated by adults with lives and jobs and families, that all understand they're in the game and guild just for fun.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to play this game primarily for trading without having access to the addons that make the trading system remotely semi-functional. It's a poor system anyway, and you should know that it's dependent on belonging to 5 trading guilds if you want to take it seriously.

On that basis I would highly recommend that you opt for PC, but do yourself a favour and play the game direct through ZOS rather than getting it (and having to run it) through Steam which has had login issues recently.

Slightly off topic but slightly on topic:

How do you guys find gaming on PC in general (not just ESO)? I've been interested for a while but I'm a bit weary because it seems like you have to upgrade your PC equipment every year or so and I like the comfort of sitting on a couch and gaming on a big screen TV versus sitting in a chair with a monitor.

You don't state whether you are EU or NA?

Whilst I cannot say for NA, PC-EU is pretty busy at all times even during the day. If you are not averse to gaining your CP's again then I would recommend PC.

The advantages that addons bring cannot be underestimated and joining a couple of busy Guilds should mean there is always somebody to chat to. I use in game text chat but also Discord for text and voice and occasionally Ts3 when people have issues with Discord.

The only proviso I would make, is that you have a fairly decent PC because that would definitely be one way that you could end up worse off, with a struggling PC. :)

Get a Steamlink or equialent for $40 (or a long HDMI cable), get a wireless XB1 controller adapter for your PC, problem solved. And then you don't have to play the gimped XB1 version of the game.

To OP: if you don't mind doing the progression again, the game is *much* better on PC. There's really no comparison. Especially considering your preferred gameplay is economic ... Tamriel Trade Center, Master Merchant, Awesome Guild Store, WritWorthy, Lazy Writ Crafter ... the addons make the experience enjoyable versus the tedium that is playing the economy on console.

Looks good, I hook a HTPC (8700k with 1080Ti) up to a 4k TV. Best of both worlds, can chill on couch with pad, but performance is right up their. With that said, I prefer playing on a smaller screen but with higher refresh rate.

You don't really need to consistently upgrade hardware, sure if you want to crank up the eye candy in AAA games or unoptimised ones, but perform some smart tweaks and usually hardware can last you a fair while. Usually there are some settings in games which tank performance, find them and usually will see a nice gain in FPS for little visual change.

As to your question, it depends on the game. There are a number which work well on controller's and for those I find chilling on the couch works nice, Assasins creed was one I recently played on big screen and looked nice and plays well on pad. On the other hand if I play RTS, or even ESO I like my keyboard and mouse so PC at desk it is.

My XBOX1X plays the crap out of this game. Handles it no issue. Also have the game on an SSD which helps loading times. My average loading time is 12 to 15 seconds.

I am sure a two thousand dollar PC will play the game better and be ultra smooth, but my console experience since upgrading to the XBOX1X is great!

I first bought the game on Xbox because it was $6 and always wanted to try it. Played for 4 months then switched to pc for the past 5 months. Overall, besides performance and addons PC is a much better experience. Both have a pretty different community of players. Xbox has a much smaller end game community then PC but a much larger flow of newcomers. Xbox has a much more toxic player base from my experience compared to PC aswell. Veterans always ripping off newbies when selling items is an example, since there’s no TTC or MM. Guilds are also more organized and established on PC whether you’re into PvP, PvE endgame, Social, or RP. If you’re looking for long term players PC is the place to be, I have to say more then half the guys I played with on Xbox stopped playing ESO within those 4 months because of the game’s performance. :/

I've never used consoles. Got my first PC in 1984, first game in 1985. No reason to mess with consoles - PCs do so much more....

I have grandchildren who had consoles for a while - until they discovered that the games they really wanted to play worked even better on the PCs they had to have for school.

I also have friends who swear by their consoles - but they tend to play games I just wouldn't bother with. I really only enjoy CRPGs - specifically these days TES (well, and ESO.... If I could just NOT get logged out over and over for no reason....)

    Ergonomic Gameplay = Console

User Friendly Social and better User Interface options = PC

Not to mention the version on Console is a given to work on your system, since the specs are standard across the board. For PC you have to make sure your rig can't run it and the necessary components could cost you more than what an entire Console is worth.

Um. No. I paid less than $1k for this rig 4 years ago. I run the game at ultra, with no upgrades at all. I didn't have to do one damn thing to get it to install and run just fine on win10.

Of course, I STILL have the login issue - but that's not on my system, it's living in the back of beyond and having only satellite for "broadband". Then again.... I have the cleanest air and water in the US, and NO CRIME.

    So....
