Templar Tank in Battlegrounds

I've been playing ESO for about two weeks now, and I love battlegrounds. The problem is I think I suck at them. So I'm looking for help!

While there have been a couple of times I've scored well in battlegrounds, I'm often near the bottom in points. I'm a tank, so I have trouble dealing much damage. I can slow enemies, but not snare them. In last night's match, it seemed like the enemy team would deliberately save me for last, killing my allies, then coming after me. I could last a decent while against 2-3 people, but it didn't matter since by that point my teammates were dead, and with my low DPS I had no hope of killing anybody. I would try to run away (to fight another day), but often found myself snared numerous times, then killed.

I'm currently level 30 templar. My primary stat is health (15), then stam (12), then magicka (10). When I level, I put my point(s) where I seem to need it most. If I've been running out of stamina too fast, then I put it there. If everything seems generally well on asset management, then I favor health.

My slotted skills are:
Puncturing Sweep - This is my primary damage, while providing some health return.
Backlash - I'm going to morph this to Purifying Light, but I only got it recently after doing some research on templar tank/heal builds, so I haven't unlocked the morph quite yet. The idea here is that, since I'm not personally doing a ton of damage, I can boost my dps indirectly by copying damage done by my allies.
Hasty Prayer - Because I need a heal, and this one seems designed for group play. I went with the speed boost morph since speed is often integral in PvP/battlegrounds.
Heroic Slash - Reduces enemy damage and their movement speed, both which help my role in PvP. I took the ultimate generation morph because there aren't always multiple enemies around, but generating ultimate is always a good thing.
Absorb Magic - I love this skill. It not only negates damage, but gives me health back instead. Since it's based off max health, which is my primary stat, I think I'm getting good benefit from it.
Remembrance - This is my ult. As a channel, it heals me and nearby allies every second, and reduces the damage I take while channeling. I have a bad habit of not using this early enough, I think. It's meant as an "oh sh--" button, but I tend to use it after my allies are dead and I'm just trying to buy time in the point. That's my bad as a player, and something I need to work on.

For gear, I'm using essentially all heavy armor. I know you're supposed to slot at least one of each piece for the off-sets (light and medium in my case), but I like keeping my character focused on a high armor/protection, and to ensure I'm getting the maximum benefit from the Resolve and Constitution skills in the Heavy Armor line.

I don't have a second weapon set slotted yet. My current plan is to slot a resto staff and move all my healing skills to the second bar. So I'll have a tank/damage bar, and a healing bar. I'm looking at this build for inspiration (the Mystic Guard ability in particular is interesting, since it would help avoid the problem where enemies seem to deliberately save tanks for last):

Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback or help. Since I really enjoy battlegrounds, I want to make sure I'm doing my part. I've had my moments (like sneaking a relic cap while the enemies were all fighting off point), but I definitely have room for improvement. I'd like to be in the top 5 in points rather than the bottom 5, more often than not.

You just need to learn the mechanics which you can only learn by playing long time and at best several classes. Playing 2 weeks is nothing. Get on cp 160 and you will know a lot more.

Don’t go into bgs as a tank if you’re not bringing utility to your team, at least have guard on your bar. Having a build that just soaks up damage is pretty useless in most scenarios.

Chaos ball and capture the relic the only modes where pure tanks can shine.

Other than that you’re just going to get ignored.

I see you’re only level 30. Haven’t even reached your peak potential, wouldn’t stress getting geared out yet. But splitting multiple attribute points isn’t the way to go, dump your points into magic. If you’re running out of stam slot snb (tanks and healbots should already have snb slotted) so you can heavy attack for stam.

Tanks can also be very good in domination and crazy king for capturing and then holding a point if u can get to them quickly enough. However templars dont have much mobility hence why being a vampire and using elusive mist works well in these battle modes.

You won't be tanking for long when there's sloads and knightslayer.

Remember to wear proc sets to do damage. Magplar tanks have poor damage, sustain and mobility.

Tank is hardest role for new players you need to know all the mechanics. First and foremost, dividing attribute points nets you worse performance than stacking them all into a single one such as magicka or stamina. And it goes on...

I can give you a decent build for non-vet bgs and cyrodiil but im not sure if it fits your style. It is a very Very tanky healtank which can also do good damage pressure and kill solo. I've been leveling this magplar alt lately and it is super effective, for me at least. You need to do a mixture of facetanking with block casting, line of sighting with elusive mist and dodge rolls if needed.

    Be an argonian.
Be a vampire and unlock elusive mist morph and devouring swarm ultimate.
Wear 5 light 2 heavy armor.
5 initiate axiom set(shacklebreaker is also good)
5 alteration mastery (or seducer, easier to get)
    2 torugs pact.(for weapons)
2 magicka regen, 1 spell power enchant for jewelries if you can
Wear 5 impenetrabe and 3 sturdy traits(with shield)
    All attributes to magicka.
    3 stat food buff.
Aim for around 28k magicka 20k health 14k stamina, 1600 spell power and 1900 mag regen in pvp

Sword and shield bar: purifying light-reflective light-punc.sweeps-breath of life-total dark-devouring swarms or empowering sweep ulti.

    Restoration staff bar: elusive mist-mutagen-breath of life(or healing ward)-extended ritual-healing springs-rememberance ulti.

    Good luck :)
