In regards to specific item search in traders.

Long_Jon_Nefty
It would be a horrible idea and here's why.

Imagine spending two hours searching for an affordable listing of a specific item you want, but all you find are high-end prices. That would be because some "entrepreneur" already foresaw demand of said item and proceeded to clear out every listing in every trader location that was priced well, and then most likely re-list at a price you really don't want to pay.

I am guilty of this as well, but you know what? It became way too much of a hassle, having to spend five to twenty minutes per trader just to MAYBE find a great deal. It wasn't worth it at all. If there was a specific search function I can tell you for a fact that I or someone else would have already snatched up that bloodforge helm you wanted to find for 26k. And it would instead be listed at 48k, and most of you are asking ZOS to give the sharks the ability to do this. It's not a joke and casual players would honestly not be able to afford anything that's new and shiny.

Not to mention it would take away that adrenaline rush when you finally see the first few letters of that motif name flick by your screen after searching desperately through countless traders in multiple trading hubs. Sure this would make our toons lives a little bit easier, but it would indirectly make them harder as well. So please stop asking, you really do not understand what it is you are asking for.. and the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

My vision for a search function would be for it to be specific to that trader.

As in, say I go to Walks-In-Leaves in Grahtwood. Open her trader window. All the sorting functions already present only work for her, so why not add a search bar that does as well? Now I can filter by crafting, blacksmithing, motifs, purple, and type in "silken ring" and see all the Silken Ring motifs she, specifically, has available. Instead of having to search through 25 pages of every purple motif in existence and going cross-eyed trying to find the one I want... and possibly not even having it available in that trader anyway.

Yes, in theory, someone wanting to flip items could go to every single trader and use the search function, but... if they are literally having to travel to every single trader to search... at that point, more power to them? If they have that kind of time in their day.

When I am looking for a high profile item I automatically assume I won't find it for less than say.. 25 or 30k.. On a case by case basis of course. So I just set the minimum gold limit to that and look upwards. No more rolling my eyes as I have to look through three hundred motifs to get to where I would expect to find such an item and..
voila! Still no need for a search function, and the market will stay random.. and in an odd way stable as well.

All I want is the ability to go to a merchant, type in "Hlaalu" and see the listings for Hlaalu motifs without having to scroll through pages and pages to maybe not find what I'm looking for.

Something along those lines as a built in part of the game would be cool.

Edited to add: I'm perfectly aware that there's an add-on for this on PC, guys. I don't think its acceptable that Console players are SOL because they can't have addons. Please stop suggesting an add-on like its an actual solution for everyone wanting improvements on this quality of life issue.

I agree, it would definitely be cool and hassle-free but over the first couple days I'm almost certain there would be a sharp decline in the amount of really good deals to be found. I can empathize, it would be nice to save time here and there but I'm just really not about it at all. That's just my opinion though.

I'd be more than willing to sacrifice any perks of being a bargain hunter, just to get in and out of there as quickly as possible.

More than willing to just casually drop 10-20k more than you really need to? Like I said.. casual players wouldn't be able to afford squat.

If you're on PC, you can already do that with Awesome Guild Store. You can search by name, search for motifs that your character does not know, or really get specific and look for an epic quality level 45 Heavy Chest that's part of the Livewire set with the sturdy trait. You can also set up "favorite" searches to easily check for multiple items. Also, your last search is saved between guild stores, so if you're looking for a specific item, you just need to set the search once and then go visit the traders.

    three words:

Tamriel Trade Center(unless you are on console, then these 3 words: SoL)
  • Long_Jon_Nefty
I mean I honestly prefer that it stays that way, but I'm sure that it's a very minor portion of the community that feels this way. Maybe they'll do something about it if you provide clear and concise points here, I know I'm more willing to open my eyes to people's POV when they are well-mannered and with constructive opinions at the place I work.

    Edited for grammar.

I do t want to spend 40 minutes to find an item, just because I’m on console. That’s not playing a game, that’s a job.

You want to use a search function to corner the market, be my guest. If you price to high no one buys anyway, at least this way they could find out the prices are sky high much quicker.
  • Long_Jon_Nefty
Extremely valid but at the same time, it's usually people who've spent thirty or more minutes looking for something that get fed up and just cough up the extra gold to end their suffering. Which is well and good, but a decent portion of the community spends a majority of their funds on houses, set gear, provisioning mats or tempers.. not to mention food. (I know I can't afford a longfin pasty recipe)

That's why when I find a really good deal on some fluff items I wanted, I am thankful that there is no search because I know those items would be long gone. I think the system should reward people who spend the time and effort, just like every other thing in the game.

All of the PC population already has a specific search function via Awesome Guild Store, yet we don't have the problems described in the OP. It should really be a base game feature.
  • Long_Jon_Nefty
Maybe it's not a problem, maybe I just spend too much time window shopping, all I know is I feel like if that were a thing then I would find a lot less of the deals that make me feel like absolutely stoked. I spent the time looking when many would have given up, and it is extremely nice when it pays off. Would those things still be in the trader at that price if it was that much easier? Idk.

(Keep in mind I am talking about those listings where the price low enough you can tell the seller just found something they didn't need or possibly didn't understand its value. Maybe I'm materialistic and vain but I love it when that shiz happens. =]

We should be able to sort motifs by type. Make it happen zos
  • Long_Jon_Nefty
Glad I'm on console cuz I assume it won't change anytime soon! Now I just have to work on my ability to sort through 18 tiny little buff/debuff thumbnails on my screen to see what I need to recast and when. Lolol

If the search function is per trader and not global, it wouldn’t be any different than it is now. You would still have to go to each trader to look for the item you want. It would just take less time than scrolling through the other stuff you aren’t looking for. Also prices are pretty much already fixed in all the traders in the popular trader areas because of the large trading guilds.

"Trying to find things on already-splintered guild traders should be a massive chore, so that I have the small possibility of finding a deal!"

    Eh, no.

Honestly, you need to value your time more. Blowing 30+ minutes searching traders with an awkward system isn't worth what small "saving" you might make. You could be spending that time playing the game (and making more gold) ;)

Already have an addon for this, but it is quite silly that a simple search function for each kiosk isn’t already in the base game.
