A (minor) gripe about housing

Specifically i am talking about when you release a notable home such as the Colossal Aldmeri Grotto or the new werewolf and psijic houses; you force players to spend $150 to buy a house and not give us any other means of obtaining it for those of us who can't drop that much money to buy a house. Why is it that you have decided that players are not allowed to earn the right to own these more extravagant homes through the use of in-game gold? Do you understand that some of us don't have the finances to drop money equal to ten months worth of ESO plus just to buy a player home which has zero value outside of cosmetic appearance?

"But can't you just save up your monthly crowns allowance to buy the new home when it comes out?" Sure I could if Zenimax decided to give us a head-ups about a new crowns only home 10 months or more in advance to give me the headway to earn that much in crowns to buy the home. Often times to put together this much and you end up sitting on it because by the time you've collected enough the home you wanted is now off the market, and there is no telling when ( if ever) it will be available again.

a colossal and unique player home that they know lots of people will want so they attach a crowns only sticker to it and watch as people are forced to either shell out $150 for the house they want so much, or miss out and never get the opportunity to own it.

you say they don't force you to do anything, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

I wouldn't agree that you're forced to buy anything but it's become increasingly obvious with the last few homes that they are making them enormous just to justify charging more. They know that the homes they are raking people over the coals for can't even be properly furnished being as large as they are. It's gotten to the point of being straight up insulting. I am going to decorate the new psyjic house on PTS and see what it looks like at item cap. If it still looks half empty then I am done buying houses until they start making smaller ones. I've already decided never again with crown crates. They're shooting themselves in the foot with this stuff in my opinion.

I very much agree. this is why i have not, nor will i ever buy crowns. the only crowns i have ever obtained was the monthly allowance from own ESO Plus and i am perfectly okay with that.

Couldn't agree more. I have no enthusiasm for new housing now because I go look at the houses on the PTS and get excited about them only to find that they are crown-only limited time exclusives. How great would it be to be able to earn some of these houses by doing stuff in-game? I'd have liked the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, the ship-house (didn't want the whole huge grotto as well though) and so on. They could add smaller variations of the same thing for gold. People will still drop cash on the colossal versions, but it would give the rest of us a chance too.

Are you sure it will be crown store exclusive? They usually offer one house for gold/crowns and one for crowns.

the only new houses i know of in recent times that wasn't crowns exclusive was the alinor townhouse and inn room at summerset, everything else was crowns only with limited time availability.

I understand your argument but you should change the verbiage of being forced to buy something because you are not being forced to buy anything.

they don't force u to buy houses unlike dlc's which you need to have the op sets, the only thing about houses that bugs me, is you can't deck them out completely the item limit is to low, i stopped doing my house because of that

I just got an inheritance of 783K. Is that enough to buy enough packs to buy everything in the housing/furnishing areas of the Crown Store or do I need to rob another bank?

A housing instance remains a luxury so long as there is significant demand but there are a large number of access barriers limiting the quantity supplied.

As for the other half of the equation, anything you can earn in the game can be abused. People will set up bots and other automated systems and ruin it for the rest of us. But if you criminally acquire money and use it to buy game items that is something far more enforceable by law.

Being little more than quality assurance for ZOS that their most extravagant offerings have been legally obtained is reason enough. It's their game, it's their assets, and intellectual property holders get to make their own rules on availability - even if fans don't like it.
