More damage done with more magika or staminia?

I am thinking of making a new character. Not sure what race or class yet. I played a sorcerer before and want something different. I started a Knightblade a while ago. So before I start a new character, I just want to make sure this is for all classes and not just sorcerer. From the forums here I have learned when I respect my sorcerer from all magika to all health, I was doing less damage because the more magika I have the more damage I do. So I respect back to all magika.

Is this for all classes as well? When doing damage the more magika or stamina you have the more damage you do?

Also to keep it simple for me, say I have max magika of 10. So it does 10 points of damage. I cast a spell and it costs 3 points. So now I have 7 magika. If I cast another spell that costs 3 points will it do 7 points of damage or the 10? I am asking is the maximum of magika is what you always do damage or it scales less the more spells you cast, so when you have less magika, the damage is less? Same goes for staminia?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Someone with more intricate knowledge will likely post something more succulent, but yes, generally speaking as a DD, you will want to put your attributes into Magika or Stamina depending on what your damage type is. Your stamina poor and Magika pool also play a role in the actual damage you do.

Most focusing on DD will hence put all their points in Magika or Stamina and make up for health via provisioning or a health glyph on a piece or two for PVE.

So yes, simply put attributes are linked to spell damage.

Yes it's the same for all classes, your skills scale off of Max Magicka or Max Stamina.

No, using your resources does not decrease the effectiveness of your next attack. It doesn't matter how much you have left, only what your maximum is.

Roughly 1000 magica / stamina is equal to 100 spell / weapon damage.

Abilities that consume magicka will be more effective the more magicka and spell damage you have, and will benefit from spell critical if they can crit, and spell penetration if they are damage abilities. Shields and sorcerer pets damage only scale on maximum magicka, not spell damage. All the others scale on spell damage + maximum magicka/10.5; staff heavy & light attacks do also.

Abilities that consume stamins will be more effective the more stamina and weapon damage you have, and will benefit from weapon critical if they can crit, and physical penetration if they are damage abilities. Templar:Dawn's Wrath:Poer of the Light scales on maximum stamina. All the others scale on weapon damage + maximum stamina/10.5; melee weapons and bow light and heavy & light attacks do also.

Ultimate abilities as well as Dragonknight:Ardent Flame:Flames of Oblivion scale on the highest stat. Generally ultimates that do physical/poison/disease damage are preferred on stamina characters since they will benefit from CP in Mighty, Precise Strikes, Piercing while those that do spell/elemental damage will be preferred on magicka ones because they benefit from CP in Elemental Expert, Elf Born, Spell Erosion as well as Light Armor: Cincentration (4.9K spell penetration).

Generally is not useful to spec points in health on a character unless he's a tank. Doing so will in most cases decrease survival for multiple reasons:
    - you will do less damage, so you won't be able to kill mobs before they kill you
    - you will reduce your healing since most healing abilities scale the same way as damage ones; only a handful scale on % HP and they are used by tanks.
    - if you are magicka your shields will be smaller and what you mai gain in HP you will lose in shield strength.
