Jewelry Crafting is the gold sink we didn't need.

This game is all about customizing your gear, there's dozens and dozens of sets to try, and to putting the customization behind a 1M bill is painful, we basically need to farm (at least) 3M if we want to upgrade our jewelry to gold, since getting the plates to upgrade takes forever. Couldn't they just let us have the same upgrading system as the other crafting professions?

And then after upgrading your jewelry, you realize that you need/prefer/want another set, and there you go again, i'm sitting on 200k and I'm subscribed btw, not everyone can get millions like if it was easy

That's not a gold sink. A gold sink is designed to flush gold out of the economy. If you were buying mats to upgrade your jewelry from an NPC vendor, that would be a gold sink.

You don't need gold jewelry to make a set viable...

I have spent 0 gold to get a jewelry set to purple, and purple (or even blue) jewelry is better than no jewelry for crafted sets.

And if you are just testing out sets, just make the jewelry white or green. No need to waste materials in that way.

My guess is that they asked themselves the following question:

How can we bring in jewelry crafting without making it any less attractive to farm jewelry currently in the game?

Answer: make obtaining upgrade mats significantly more time consuming and more trouble than doing the current content.

I've got a gold infused bone pirates necklace I bought from the golden and then transmuted. I love it. New system isn't worthless, it's just not going to get you gold from a normal dungeon drop.

It's great for transmutation and making none vet neck/rings purple if you don't like doing vet
but you got to be nuts to gold them with the way it is right now that or just 100mil+ gold rich

Prices are coming down on gold plating every day. It will still be prohibitively expensive for a while, but that was to be expected.

However, the OP seems to have some confusion about what a Gold sink is. If anything, the gold platings have gotten some of ESO rich folks to open up their wallets and circulate more $$$ in the economy. Many of the Rawl and Mournhold vendors have done exceptionally well in recent weeks. This has been a boost to the economy... not a drain.

as has been said, it's not a gold sink. trading with other players does not take gold out. a gold sink takes gold out of the game.

making gold in this game is easy, time consuming but easy. farm, writs and trade.... easy.

Jewelry crafting is not a gold sink. A gold sink takes money out of the game.

Anyone spending gold on it is merely transferring from one player to another. That is normal game economy.

I don't know if I would say that jewelry crafting is a gold sink, but the development of the jewelry crafting system is a little cumbersome. It levels up at a great pace and there are plenty of places to get jewelry, but I feel like it is just a little to upgrade material intensive to be as viable as it could be.

It makes sense from a developer perspective that they didn't want everyone to be 9-trait master jewelry crafters with stacks of gold upgrade mats the first week Summerset came out, but on the other hand it is somewhat restrictive for people who may not have access to the funds to upgrade a ring from blue to purple.

I don't know to be honest. I think that jewelry crafting is important to the game itself and I still believe that it was one of the more important additions to the game Though I also know that perception is reality. You perceive a gold ring to be better than purple even though it only offers a marginally small amount of stats from purple to gold. Anyway my two cents - I would probably expect this to be a null and void conversation in about 6 months. We'll see.

Gold barely matters in stats. Numbers are so small, that even the best player would barely made any differnce if it was epic ring.
