The truth ZOS doesn't want you to know: Steam problems will not get fixed

MaxBacon
MaxBacon
Sadly so, and for several reasons, the most core one is because the whole system is tied to Steam in a way that they can't do much when Steam the steam services themselves become unreliable, the fix would require to stop relying on steam services to provide a reliable login system, and the rumored contracts they have with Steam are said to not allow that.

So what is actually happening when ZOS posts the usual message?
CrYrbsl.png

Absolutely nothing! Everything ZOS is doing is monitoring the Steam service waiting for the normalization, you can bet ZOS has no developers assigned to this problem.

Once it normalizes they call it day, until it happens again... and again... and again.. it doesn't get any more obvious now does it?

This problem will last for as long as the service they depend on logins continues being unreliable, it may be weeks, it may be months, it may be years, it's just sad that this company is not capable to face their players and openly discuss the mess the service reliability has become and always hides behind superficial "we're investigating, we're working on it" messages. My personal bet on that is that in a month or two, we'll still be seeing the "we're investigating the issue and working on it" as the steam login continues to fail.

It is also sad that people are not united in their desire to achieve real action from the ZOS in solving this problem. People who have an account that is not tied to Steam, are indifferent at best, and at worst - protect the ZOS, accusing steam players of all mortal sins. It'a so rediculous. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"actively investigating" = "asking Steam when they will fix their problem"

A little hard to blame ZOS for this, though; Steam issues aren't their fault.

Games have different login methods, ESO seems to directly rely on Steam to login, it also has large rates (easily reaching dozens of thousands) so it should be related.

It is impossible for this huge problem with the service downtime to last this long if they had full control of it, and the non-steam logins are not failing when the steam ones do.

The Steam issue with Zeos is related to the connect between the two so you CAN NOT say it is not a Steam issue just because you can use your other games under Steam. It would be like saying that "I can login to ESO with my nonSteam account so it is not a ESO issue". That's making assumptions that we don't know as of yet.

By the way I can login to ESO with my non-Steam account.

    It could be either one.

So you're accusing ZOS pf abandoning their player base with zero evidence?

I'm accusing them because their behavior shows they are not being proactive at all, they leave us with the most generic copy/paste message every time the problem happens, there hasn't been a single concrete update and the issue has only gotten more frequent.

It gets clear the only thing ZOS is doing, is waiting for the service to normalize every time this happens, then call it a day, until the next time this happens.

Unless they are the most incompetent company in the maintenance of one MMO of this scale and activity; because it's either that or them not having control over the problem.

It provides legal ground for steam to go against ZOs if ZOs treats steam customers as garbage and intentionally not fixing the issue in time ? Its revenue loss for both ZOs and steam . ZOs is not intending to fix steam issue on time ? ZOS just brags and never responds to support ticket. Whenever server loaded on prime time , steam players are kicked ?

This means that the issue essentially becomes an incompatibility (over simplified term) between the game and Steam's launcher. If the Steam launcher works, there'd be no reason to change anything. So who is changing the game? ZOS.

    1. So either ZOS is making changes without consideration for the Steam launcher.

    or

    2. ZOS is providing necessary information to Steam to update their launcher but Steam isn't doing it.

I'd say the first one is more likely.

It's true ZOS doesn't support Steam players, in fact it's a nightmare for a Steam player to even send a ticket because they don't give them support accounts.

How more ridiculous can this get? ZOS sits and watches as the reputation of ESO goes down the toilet as people grow angrier and angrier at one issue that only gets worse, with 0 communication from their side aside of a "we're investigating" every time it happens.

Steam support responded immediately its ZOs issue. ZOs support not even responding anything . During prime time only steam accounts have login and lag issues . Its has become a common problem. If ZOs intended to fix things, it take this much long ? Its common routine issue. I definitely feel something fishy.

Steam players better to get ready for abandoning the ship. Either buy retail copy or quit ESO your choice.

It does not matter on whose side the fault is, because each company claims that they are all right, and sends to look for answers to the other company. And spending time to discuss such issues, people on the forum miss the main thing - to demand from the ZOS to solve the problem and/or to give a clear answer about "every_week_investigation" this issue.

If it was all in full control of ZOS to fix, I would say it would be fixed already, unless ZOS is the most incompetent company managing one MMO I have ever ran into, issues like that are not hard to fix, we see them often on MMO's release peaks.

There has to be a lack of control on ZOS side, they must be depending on services from steam that aren't reliable, and now being unable to change it, if you ask me ZOS must be full of regrets of the way they did this setup.

ZOS are still at fault even if the current hurdle is on Steam's side. They are the ones selling their product through that store front, they are the ones relying upon their services for authentication with their game servers. They're the one who okay'd and set up all the contract that manage their sales through that storefront. And they are likely the ones at the root of this problem in the first place, by making changes or alterations or whatever it is that have been plaguing this issue between the two. Steam is there to provide a pretty blatant service, and their responses to disruptions of said service are not this feeble.

Dozens of thousands of concurrent players would be something nobody would waste, I'm sure Steam represents a good chunk of the ESO total concurrent players, normally one MMO a few dozens of thousands online is already considered highly populated (and most of them don't even get that much).

Exactly the problem of ESO, most MMO's just open the launcher, ESO actually has a specific launcher just for Steam players, that directly connects and relies on it to login. Other MMO's just tie their launcher to steam and players login with their normal accounts independent of Steam.

The important part is bolded. Because ZOS is a business and a businesses goal is to make a profit. It would be the death of a business who thought along the lines of : "we have enough players to put us in the black without steam so why should we care about them?"

People will stop buying games from steam even other games and buy directly. Just go after steam instead of ZOs. Seems ZOs has no interest in fixing this issue. Next prime time only steam players will be kicked from server. Tell steam clearly that I wont buy next game from steam.
