@BohnT
If I remember correctly last year during the event it was almost impossible not to Zerg surf. However I do want to use the event to get my first taste of battlegrounds so there’s that.
Use Lingering HP / Major expedition potions as well (+ Major vitality if you can afford the new alchemy mats, but prob not a good idea to make that big of an investment for a new build). Last I checked, the new gold food (Artaeum drink is still bugged and doesn't work with Bone pirate, so don't bother with it for now.
Don't use heavy armor in non CP, it has no benefits this patch against Sloads nor Bleeds compared to medium. Mobility is what will get you out alive. There is no tank build that has a chance to survive focused team fire from a decent group in BGs. You may consider Forward Momentum with FoO / Expert hunter instead of Rally / Shuffle for more mobility and a more aggressive setup, even as a medium armor build.
A lot of damage comes from DoTs this patch, making Spell Wall questionable - more healing / shielding is key, hence Flawless DB for the weapon damage (increased healing) and Ferocious Leap for the shields & burst opportunity. "But but but TAKE FLIIIIGHT" - damage in non CP is extremely similar, and Pierce armor provides us with Major Breach for the flame damage part, it also has more damage than Take Flight against vamps, Burning proc chance as well as the very valuable damage shield for bursting down an overconfident opponent who doesn't expect a stam dk to use this morph.
Sload is not too much of an issue for stam DKs, since they benefit from a fair share of healing multipliers, as long as you don't stay in the middle of Thurvokhun with Major defile on you and 3-4 Sload procs on you. Again: mobility will keep you alive, this is not a patch for tanking.
Reverb bash is an absolute nope and a waste of resources in non CP. We have more than enough durok users around, mag sorc is a popular spec against which a burst spec such as this one performs better than the dot / defile specced stam DKs, the ever popular stamblades cannot avoid Fossilize, but they can (and will) avoid enough of your reverbs to drive you mad. This is not counting that it helps tremendously with stam mangement. CP is a different beast since fights tend to be longer, as such, running defile makes sense there.
Source: Enough BG games to mean I can't get less than a 1h queue unless I'm facing full Sload / defile premades with voice comms playing as stam dk.
