Engine Guardian Bugged

I just noticed this in Cyrodiil, Vivec PS4 NA: While an enemy player has the dwemer sphere active, all ranged abilities target the sphere, even if the enemy player is hard targeted/highlighted.

I tested it near Alessia bridge, hard targeted a player, and my snipes curved to hit his dwemer sphere.
A few minutes later, I cast piercing mark on another player who had his engine guardian up, and the dwemer sphere was marked instead.
Casting poison inject on that same player resulted in the sphere being stunned from stealth instead of the player.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I know Engine Guardian is supposed to restore resources to the affected player, but it appears to be absorbing not only all projectiles but also all ranged abilities.

This may explain why there was a group of 8, all different classes both mag and stam, wearing Engine Guardian.

There is no tab targeting/hard targeting in this game, not even that highlight. It's a visual assist while you still manually target.

Were your crosshairs on the other player without the dwemer sphere also in the crosshairs, especially in front of the player?
You say "snipe" so this could be possible with greater distance as the pet is usually close. The target selection is a relatively good size area around your corsshairs to help players aim, so if the sphere is in that range with the player and closer to you then the player it is likely your ranged attack will target the pet sphere.

Do you have documentation on the highlight not being a tab target? This is the first time I've heard that it is only a visual assist, and I've had heavy attacks from an inferno stave travel from the tip of the stave backwards to a hard-targeted enemy behind me.

not true at all. "TABing" a target will have you hit that target even if other enemies are in your LoS. you might even hit a "TABed" target if it isn't anywhere close to your crosshair and you're actually trying to hit something else. (ofc, like most things ESO, this doesn't work 100% of the time!)

Aiming would be unimportant in this game at all if that were the case. You could literally highlight an enemy and then turn around so it was way off screen way away from you then hit your attack and it would go for them when it really doesn't.

This game relies on getting your crosshair at least close to the enemy though then the "focused target assist" can kick in and help. It does not aim for you

This game does not aim for you. You still need to have an enemy in your crosshairs(the little arrows in the center of your screen) or very close.
If they are right behind you close then they are still in your crosshairs because of the weird way the camera works in this game. You can test this by trying to talk to any npc behind you, which I have done when trying to get a close-up of their faces occasionally.
