Patch maintenance vs maintenance

Dumb question but when it says patch maintenance does it actually mean a patch is coming vs just regular maintenance? As of right now pc says patch and Xbox says just maintenance. Just want some clarification. Thanks

PC gets to beta test, while the console version get certified (usually means 2 weeks waiting on M$/Sony)

Nuh the test is only to see if the live server behaves vaguely similarly to the internal test one & we know how often that is not the case

Actually, I searched to see if there was an answer to this very question. If it's a patch, how big is it (average...) because I have to micromanage my download bw - so if it's a gig or so, that means getting up at 3am (late night free zone 3-6 am) to download.

Yes, I am one of the unwashed third-class citizens who have only satellite. Not really an issue with playing (eh well - lag means I have to be half a dozen levels above the mini-bosses, but *shrug*) because the game usage on my usual 12 to 14 hour play schedule is less than a percent download bw. But patches.... that's an issue: a friend sent me his install folder on stick - fully up to date - but I still had almost 10 GB to download which took me three days from 3-6 am. Good thing I don't have issues with getting up early. Husband on the other hand.... *sigh*

Anyway, a definitive answer would be really appreciated: will I have to download several gigs of stuff tomorrow before I can play?

Hi there! Thanks for the reply. I'm with wildblue (have been since 2005.... I'm probably one of the only 5 remaining folks nationwide with the "old modem and plan"....) I'll be long dead before we get anything better in here - very small town, 40 miles from the nearest small city, less than 100 full time residents. Nope - ain't hap'nin here.... Along with - nope, can't use a phone hotspot - cell phone doesn't work here at the house. No LOS to the towers, big magnetic ridge in the way. In fact, the huge mountain above us to the south is just one big magnet....

Seriously, I have no issues at all (other than the aforementioned lag) with playing all day every day - and I still keep up with a couple of small game-oriented forums (one of which I run, having been a website developer/manager for some years - on satband, mind you!) plus check email etc - and I still run 4 client sites. My WB plan is 12 GB down, 3 GB up, which costs me $70 a month since day one (hasn't ever gone up for a wonder!) I've been such a good customer for so long that my speed isn't ever throttled - but big downloads have to happen from 3-6 am. I can work with that. I do of course keep very close track of bw - and setting up a site in the last couple of months ran it up to 97%, which meant I was really watching the tracker.

I do not however stream anything - so that means I don't have that sucking my bw dry. First thing is, I don't have any use for movies, tv, etc. Bad enough husband has the "normal" tv going all day long every day.... Second thing is - you can't stream on satellite. Works for me, I wouldn't do it if it did work. When I want to watch a movie, I stuff the disk into the blu-ray....

Because of the lag issue, I don't do group content, and as I mentioned, I have to get a bunch of levels before I can do mini-bosses even. I'm good with that. I'm a loner/hermit at heart anyway - I like MMOs because they're not static, though I dearly love the entire SPMR (single player machine resident) TES games, which I still play. I played WoW for 8 years (then I got so annoyed with blizz I canceled 7 accounts and I've never been back), RIFT for 3 years (ditto on annoyed and canceled....) Playing games is my hobby in retirement, and so far this one's cost me a lot less than the other two!

Anyway, I just kind of need to know if there will be a patch tomorrow morning, and if so, how big.

What’s stupid is that they change the season gifts and do this maintenance within 12 hours of each other. Thus making it so I’m a day behind collecting already. Cool game Zos.

No one, the game is still in development. Crown Store is in final release though and working perfectly.

I worked at a warehouse. Much like ESO, it ran a server. A big server. But rather than a game, it was a Million square foot warehouse that did drop point shipping for major online retail merchants.

Every week, there was maintenance. Would take a few hours. Sometimes there were migrations, perhaps would could be called a patch in gaming servers. Code would be updated. But over the 7 years that I worked at this warehouse, sometimes stuff went really wrong.

The central server also ran a wifi server for the scanner guns used to scan and track product as it was "touched" and moved through the building. Sometimes even small migrations, would cripple everything. Once a bug caused all the outgoing orders to have the same second barcode that dealt with internal routing through the system when printed on the shipping labels.

Scanner guns would confirm the orders, but then when routed to other locations in the warehouse on the miles and miles of belts by the second barbode, finally going to the trucks, everything overloaded one internal location. It happened during 4th quarter, between Black Friday and Christmas... Where up to 60,000 packages are sent out daily... Some people on the online sites spending quite a bit of money on priority shipping to insure they got their stuff by Christmas.

Luckily I did not work in IT, or have to deal with customer service, "Where the bleep is my order!, I paid priority shipping, and if my kid don't get his toy by christmas..." It must of been hell. I joked to the IT guy that I could fix the server with a sledge hammer, and I think he said something about wanting to stab me in the neck with a pen...

I'm confused as to what game you're playing...don't the "mini-bosses" in ESO scale to CH160 the same as your character? If not, you're a couple of patches behind...

Also, why can't you stream on satellite? It's what satellite does best...

I hate necroing old threads, but I have a reason. To answer this (if you still care), significant lag puts one at a major disadvantage. Imagine casting an ability and waiting 2/3 seconds for it to happen. Imagine seeing a boss about to perform a heavy, but because of the lag, you have no hope of exploiting or blocking. Interrupts? Fugheddaboudit.

This is actually quite a clever workaround on OP's part.

My best friend's husband is on a satellite connection with his Xbox & loves MMOs, but he can't handle the lag. I'll pass this info along to him.

It's AMAZING to see people who aren't kids/very young adults into these games, too. I'm not a youngin anymore, either, and it gives me hope that I'll still be interested in gaming 10, 20, and maybe even 30 years from now.

Last thing: OP, if you have nearby friends with cable/dsl broadband, see if you can download your patches there. I've got a friend or two who comes to my house to use my unlimited 150 down to take care of that and I don't mind one bit... as long as I'm not doing something that requires bandwidth.

Tons of us here. I started with pen and paper D&D games, then dial up, then old AOL modems, all the way to today's fiber. I'll turn 69 in a couple of months and plan keep on gaming until I return to the Hist.
