✭✭This one must be a really hard to find piece of code. It's been there, affecting different kinds of buffs & debuffs, since early release on PC.
By now I think it deserves to be preserved forever, even if they find the culprit. All they should change is that they should include a centre of screen announcement whenever it happens, similar to server maintenance messages:
