Putting down the quill pen the man took up the lute on his lap and sang...

"Oh Stormfist, OHHH Stormfist

See your fall from graaaaaace...

Ambition, Ambition not honor your only chaaaase."

"What do you think?" The man asked picking up a flagon and taking a drink.

Jorn raised his eyebrows and shrugged.

"Not bad, I guess." Jorn said.

"Well give me a chance. I'm not nearly drunk enough yet to write a good song. Plus I need to hear more of your story."

"Why do you want to know about this stuff anyway?" Jorn asked.

"I am an entertainer and I need new material. The inside story of the Stormfist clan, told by a runaway of the Stormfist clan, is going to be a great ballad. Everyone is tired of hearing about Red Diamond."

"Can't argue with you there." Jorn said taking a gulp from his mug.

"But why fishing?" The man asked leaning on his lute.

"I have always loved to fish. The Stormfist do not ply the oceans. So...." Jorn shrugged.

"So you had to escape and flee from your own clan. And you took work on a fishing boat."

"That's right. Captain Consider hired me right there on the dock." Jorn said, leaning back in his chair and gazing in to the fire in the fireplace.

"Wait. The Captain's name was.....Consider?"

Jorn nodded.

"Oh, that's great. That's a great name." The man said leaning forward to pick up his quill and write feverishly.

"He was a good captain. Treated us crew well." Jorn said.

"And taught you to read and write." The man said leaning back and taking up his lute again.

"That's right. In just over three seasons." Jorn replied.

"Consider, Consider....

Teacher on the sea.

Consider, consider....

That fishing was not meant to beeeee." He sang.

Jorn grimaced.

"Don't worry, don't worry I will make something out of it. So you fished for five seasons but the Stormfist found you." He said.

"Aye. In a little port town. Three of them just happened to stop by that Inn. Bad luck really." Jorn said.

"Was there a fight?"

"Oh aye. I wasn't going back without a fight. They had dishonored themselves by turning in to assasins and thieves and by not honoring the code of combat." Jorn said.

"You mean when Jorunn and Fildgor met in combat and Fildgor refused to abide by the code when he lost." The man said.

Jorn nodded.

"So they found you in the tavern, attacked you and took you back to the clan. Then what happened?"

"They shackled me, chained me to a wagon and drug me around with them camp to camp. They tried to get me to use my power to help them steal. But I wouldn't." Jorn said.

A serving maid leaned over to fill the two men's drinks giving them a devilish grin and displaying plenty of cleavage. As she pulled away Jorn grasped at the hem of her gown getting a slap on his hand for his trouble.

"They beat you?" The man asked.

"Oh aye. The witches took their turn too trying to figure out how and why the power came to me, a man. Until I came along the men in the clan had to use the amulets the witches gave them to cast magic." Jorn said raising one hand and letting the blue, electric light play along his fingers.

The sound and acrid smell drew a few glances from others in the dimly lit tavern.

"No Stormfist man had ever had the power before?" The man asked watching the blue tendrils.

Jorn shook his head and the light snapped out.

"And this power just came to you at a young age?" The man asked.

Jorn nodded.

The man took up his lute again.

"The POWER the POWER

None other on the lissssst

Behold the only TRUE Stormfisssssst..."

Jorn raised his eyebrows and stuck out his lower lip.

"I like it. The only true Stormfist." Jorn said thoughtfully.

"Yeah, now we are getting somewhere." The man said leaning forward to scribble with the quill again. "So you were captive, by your own people. For how long?

"Just over two years." Jorn said.

"And how did you get away?" The man asked.

"Riders from the Red Blade found our group just before we broke winter camp." Jorn replied.

"The Red Blade?" The man gasped. "I wouldn't have wanted to be in your shoes."

"Why's that?" Jorn chuckled.

"Let's just say their bounty hunters have been looking for me for awhile." The man said grinning.

"You shouldn't have anything to worry about." Jorn said putting one leg over the arm of his winged back chair. "That is unless you were some kind of thief."

The man smiled broadly giving a nod and strummed the top string of his lute once.

"Or a burglar." Jorn said taking a drink and setting the flagon on the table between the two chairs.

The man smiled again and strummed the string again.

"Or a backstabbing murderer moving from town to town performing as a bard." Jorn said looking over at the man.

The man's smile melted away. The two locked eyes.

"Hello Grallin. Aye, we have been looking for you for awhile." Jorn said.

Grallin started to leap to his feet but there was a blinding, blue light followed by a deafening arc of electric power knocking him back in to his chair and knocking the chair over backward.

Jorn stood up and leaned over the smoking man, picking up the lute and removing a dagger out of Grallin's boot.

"It's alright folks, he will be ok. This man is now in the custody of the The Red Blade." Jorn said to the stunned onlookers.

Jorn grabbed Grallin by one arm and began dragging him to the exit.

"Grab that door for me friend." Jorn said with a nod.

Jorn drug the man outside and flung him over his horse who snorted, stomped and tossed his head.

"What's wrong with you, Warcloud?" Jorn asked taking a step back.

Suddenly there was a loud crack and dull hum in his ears. He found himself on the ground looking up at two men silhouetted by the full moon. Putting his hand to his head he felt the blood trickling down, tasted it.

Through the daze, anger and rage welled up inside of him. He balled up one of his fists and called upon the power of the lightning. He felt it well up inside of him, surging with his rage.

One of the men drove the heel of his boot into Jorn's face slamming his head into the wall of the inn.

"None of that now mate." The man said bending down and looking Jorn in the face. "We appreciate you finding him for us new meat. We'll take it from here, see you back at headquarters. You know you're a pretty good cook, but not so good at this."

Chuckling they slid Grallin off of Jorn's horse and slung him over their own. Laughing they rode off in to the darkness.

Jorn slid himself up against the wall wiping the blood from his nose with his sleeve. Reaching in to his tunic he took out a little leather book tied together with string and opened it turning to the page titled "Aunt Allesia's Pork Chops."

"Garlic." He said sniffing blood back up his nose and writing in the book with a trembling hand. "That's what it's missing. Garlic. Stuff is hard to find though."

Closing the book he let out a sigh, leaning his head back against the wall. His horse snorted and pawed at the ground.

"I know. You tried to warn me. Good job." He groaned as he got to his feet slipping the little book back in to his tunic.

Jorn leaned on the horse, wiping his nose again.

"Warcloud, my friend. We need a new job. Let's go find Abazirr."
