Keeping your account and characters if you buy another version of ESO?

Now, I know you have to start over if you move platforms, like from ps4 to pc. I've been told you also have to if you move from Steam to the launcher or vice versa; is that true? But my real question if if you start playing on the standard version and you buy the Elder Scrolls Collection on the same exact platform, can you use your same account and existing characters? I don't know how much that counts as the same or different game. Because it is more cost effective to do that than buy the dlc with crowns and Summerset upgrade separately.

Does anyone know this? Seems like a simple question, might even be a stupid question. I just don't put it past zos to do this to either make us spend more on content or on crowns.

If you change platform, or even regional server within the same platform, from EU to NA or vice versa, you'll have to start from scratch since characters are server bound. For changing the mediation, for example not using steam and accessing the game directly from its executable, I don't think it poses any problem if you connect to the same server. As for upgrades, you can buy them separately I think, or buy the digital upgrade for your existing account.

I suggest opening a support ticket so you get an answer direct from ZOS. My guess is that if you bought a collectors addition of the game it would be considered a new serial number and therefore a new account. Possibly ZOS could help link the accounts but I honestly do not know

I purchased the base game, Morrowind and Summerset from Steam. I purchased ESO+ from the ESO store. With all the log in issues with Steam recently, I bought the base game from the ESO store three days ago. My Steam account is still linked. It took me quite a few tries to log in with the launcher (ESO username/password) and not Steam. Finally I got the pop up message "log in from an unknown IP address" which generated an email with a code. Once I put the code in, I could log in with the launcher without Steam. Now I can log in either way. All my characters, inventory, everything are there. I probably should have cleared my cache so I would have gotten the access code sent after my first log in attempt. All is good now. For me it was worth spending the $10 to log in with the launcher and not Steam. I want to be able to play when I want and not have to deal with the times when Steam won't let us log in.

Each platform has its own servers. You cannot transfer characters between them, although, if you buy a new version of ESO for the same platform, as long as you sign in the same way, it shouldn't be an issue.
