Logging in through Steam vs physical copy

I have absolutely had it with Steam, and I get that Steam is being an absolute tool in regards to transferring accounts. My question is: If I purchase a NEW copy of the game - NOT THROUGH STEAM - can I log in with my current ESO account, and still be able to log on with my existing characters, or is that account forever linked to Steam, and I have to start from scratch?

I am ready to yank my subscription through Steam, and subscribe directly through ESO. I would rather do this while the base game is on sale (I have not purchased Summerset as of yet), and before I get billed for another month's subscription. I will also never ever buy an MMO through Steam again. Ever.

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to start from scratch if you buy a copy outside of Steam.

Also, don't let ZOS fool you-- this isn't just a Steam thing, this is THEIR servers too. This has been happening since launch for both Steam users and people who bought a copy of the game outside of Steam. You may not experience this current problem if you buy another copy, but this will happen again for any user regardless in different situations.

Proof that this isn't just Steam is that I can still play LOTRO perfectly through Steam. No disconnects. No infinite load screens. No lag. It's ZOS and their crap servers and lack of effort to actually fix the problem. While Steam is playing a role in it, it would be a waste, imo, to get another copy.

I'm going to say that this is because Summerset just came out this month and each new chapter or DLC, this kind of thing happens.

While ZOS takes their sweet time to try and find a band-aid for this problem, I would recommend at least trying some troubleshoots. Last month I did IPv6 disable troubleshoot and the whole month went fine.

This is not proof at all. It means nothing that you can still access LOTRO.

Proof that it is Steam is those not with Steam can log in just fine.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. At least my max lvl character is 18. I had some crown unlocks as well, but I'll sub, so it's not like I can't purchase them again.

The day this first happened to me (also day 1 of E3 I believe), someone had posted that this happened to a bunch of other games on Steam, only that ZOS had taken upwards of 8+ hours to fix the issue (I went to bed after a while), while other games where up within 3. So while it does happen elsewhere (don't know why LOTRO has gotten off easy), Steam + ESO is bad news.

IP6 on an internal address shouldn't affect my connection to their server, that's all negotiated internally by routers. Unless you mean external, which I can't control. That's an IP4 address anyway.

I was trying to get answer 3 days. They dont want and will not answer. It is only our problem, as i undestand, not their. As I understand - they just wait while a new posts move my (or you about steam accounts) posts to botton of the barrel

It's an IT thing.... it goes through a mental filter first. "Is this my problem....? No?! Alright then! File under: Not my problem."

All it does is hurt their image. I can just imagine if this had happened a few days before E3, and everyone there got word of it. Some particular game reviewers would have had a field day with it.
