Why the fourth piece bonus gives 140 spell damage instead Max Magicka or Magicka regeneration or spell critical? This set is obviously centered in maximize the magicka pool, like Necropotence and for someone that builds Max Magicka, 140 spell damage is for nothing.

Robes of Destruction Mastery Set
LEVEL 50 CHAMPION 160
(2 items) Adds 1096 Max Magicka
(3 items) Adds 833 Spell Critical
(4 items) Adds 140Spell Damage
(5 items) While you have a Destruction Staff equipped, your Max Magicka is increased by 2521

If you're a sorc, skills like Daedric Curse, Liquid Lightning, Blockade, etc., do scale on spell damage, so it's not a terrible bonus.

i have just started a magSorc, do not want to run with pets so i would really appreciate someone using this set sharing their experience. it looks like a viable replacement for Necropotence. is this set worth getting?

Strictly speaking, it is a dps loss compared to julianos, or pretty much any other spell damage set but you get the utility of the max magic, so more resource management and bigger wards, if you use them. I used it on my sorc till I went full easy mode with pets.

And @teladoy it is 129 spell damage, not sure where you got 140 from.

I'd rather they dropped the crit bonus for max magicka. If we had a 2-4 pc like spinners, I might actually consider using this set.

Crit is just a really useless bonus for pvp and since it's a pvp set, I think they should at least give us good 2-4 pc bonuses. The 5 piece itself isn't very strong either.

what i am going to use is Netch's Touch plus another set. i am not using the "meta" sets, i know, but i am looking for something to pair the NT with. since i do not want to run with pets DM set looks like it could replace the Necropotence somewhat. should i abandon that idea and use NT with Juli.?

Haven't tested it on my sorcs but I currently use it on my magBlade and I love it.

I would recommend getting it because it's so cheap (still) from the guild stores. Maybe they make it BoP one day.

Can't provide any stats (dummy parses) but from a solo play perspective it's a great set and I mostly use it to farm vMA etc.

Like I said, destruction mastery is a dps loss compared to julianos or any other spell damage five piece, so you are trading some DPS for utility. it is up to you to decide if that is something you "should" do.

Crit might be easily accessible in light armour to reach your comfort zone but it's not a useless bonus for PvP.

5pc is too weak though. No reason to slot in PvP as SPC Spinners Shackle or even elegance are the better sets.

mmmm i thought that max magicka has spell damage ratio that will affect any kind of skill that scales with spell power. Not happening the same with shield damage from sorcerers that scales only of max magicka.

I mean, if you're a min-maxer then yeah, this set won't appeal to you. But for a jack-of-all trades build or solo grind build, being better at more things is more desireable than being really good at only one thing. Sure, spinner and julianos will net you more damage, but also less resources and it's not always about raw power.

The skills that @WuffyCerulei mentioned also scale with spell damage, meaning both Max magic and spell damage are taken into consideration when determining the damage of the skill, he simply misspoke when it said "do scale on spell damage", I am sure he meant that the skills he said use both. Pets and conjured Ward scale only with max magic.

The common ratio for most skills is 10.5 max magic to 1 spell damage. Meaning if you raise your max magic by 10.5, it will increase the skills damage the same as if you added 1 spell damage. Seeing as it is easier to raise your spell damage, thanks to sets like bsw, julianos or the meta right now, siroria, that is your best bet to get higher DPS if you do not use pets.

The draw for destruction mastery is that you get that max magic for the ward while losing, in my opinion, a minimum of damage possibility. You gain more magic, so you can cast more spells before you run dry and you get a bigger ward.

What makes this a PvP set? Last I checked it drops in Dragonstar Arena. Did they change that?

He seems like the kind of guy that thinks in pve you have to wear the bis, siroria, all the time, everywhere in pve, so he considers the main benefits of destruction mastery, ie the sustain and utility of the set to be PvP only.

Most of the stuff that's good for PvP does not actually drop from PvP zones or rewards.
