What do you use gold For

I’m sure this has been discussed To death, but I can’t find the threads. As somebody who is only just a couple months into the game, with my first toon About a day away from 160 CP, I’m Starting to wonder what gold is for. I use it here in there for materials, but nothing is terribly expensive so far. For people further along in the game, what do you tend to spend money on? What do you save up for? What is worth it? How does your personal economy work?

Yeah, there's a few things to spend lots of gold on.

I think of gold as game time. You play the game and get stuff you don't need or want, so you sell it, and then spend the gold on something you do need or want.

So the question is, what is it you want? If you have your gear setup perfect are you trying to collect anything? All the motifs? All the recipes? All the houses?

exactly... hoarding gold is so hard in this game because it's easy to set a new goal that requires either a grind or gold and just go out and buy the things you need. Motif completion is a HUGE gold sink.

Upgrade materials when you start golding out sets. Potions start adding up if you don’t farm for the reagents yourself. Gold jewelry can be bought weekly from the Cyrodiil vendor for 500k.

First I completed my motif collection, now I'm buying all the houses. In between I also bought a good couple of furnishing plans. On top of that I buy some 100+ master writs that people sell in zone chat if the price is good. Still have 5m+ of houses left, so there's that. Afterwards it's time to move on to a new addiction hobby

Housing is a big one and potions are probably most consistent expense. You can also just buy random sets to try out.

Let's see... I just dropped 1mill on a new house, 2.4 mill to finish collecting motifs (and still haven't bought the summerset ones), 3 mill to decorate two notable homes, and just tonight I spent 130k buying 5 furniture patterns. Oh, and I spent 200k buying four fountains from the luxury vendor.

In other words... motifs and housing. If you don't care about those things, it's easy to sit on piles of gold. I'm constantly making and spending gold. People think I'm super rich--nahhh, I just earn and spend, earn and spend.

Wait until you start golding out gear and need to buy tempers because your stash ran dry or you need to buy pots for end game activities. It adds up... quick.

Wow, ok. That’s a long list of buyables....I guess I better start hoarding, I am investing in being a crafter so I guess the motifs are key? I gottta figure out how to sell things too I guess. Must be a YouTube video. I am sitting on a lot of unused mats....

I spent all my gold on Monster hats & Gold jewelry from the PVP golden dealer & BOE gear from guild traders. Now I have no gold & a bank full of out-dated awesome gear!

I spent like half a million gold just upgrading my bank space.

The rest I spend on crafting. I like to craft all my own sets, which gets expensive when you consider how much leather/ingots you need. It can be like 10-15k in mats to craft a set. Up to 100k if you want to gold it out.

Whatever is left goes to motifs.

With few characters it's easier to sustain mats and gear, but as an altoholic and/or theory crafter the gold is easy to spend.

At the moment? Not much, since I am fairly stingy and am prone to hoarding gold rather than spending it (To some degree anyway).

That said, I do tend to spend gold on occassion, be it to buy some materials, buy a Motif or two, and to spend gold on repairs and such after a day of adventure.

Recent big purchase was a skeleton training dummy for my house, to work as occassional beating object and as a butler for me and my girlfriend when we're in the house. At the moment we're considering saving up gold so we can buy a bigger house (Mostly because I can't help myself putting bits and bobs in to our Autumns's Gate home and the garden is slowly becoming crowded). So yeah, that's something.

I have almost 1 mil after buying a 300k house and have yet to sell on the broker. just started steal/pickpocket with a alt so what I made was from playing the game, crafting writs on one toon.

thinking about buying a hat or two from the crydil merchant but I never been there yet to check the zone out.

Upgrading a new Set to Gold tier costs roughly 250k in materials.
How anyone could have any money in this game is beyond me (if he doesnt have the time to do the farming. Which pretty much no one over 30 has )

Upgrading sets is a waste IMO for little return. Only Monster sets and Weapons get the Gold treatment. Housing and motifs is the only thing I spend gold on and sometimes a specific item. Transmuting saved me alot of gold as well.
