Pathetically low 8K DPS on stamblade... please help

I have a kahjiit stamblade level 50/313 that does only 8K dps against a test dummy (6mil). I've tried following equipment and skill rotations with no meaningful improvement--maybe about 25% increase in DPS with changes to skills and equipment (yes, I was doing about 6k dps in the environment/world before "improving"). (I have medium Purple Hundings Rage and Night Mother and gold duel wield daggers/bow.)

What obvious thing am I missing? Something obvious that would triple (or even double) my dps? Animation canceling (when and how)?

My skill rotation roughly consists of keeping 2 or 3 dots up and throwing in a few Sneak Attacks and a light attack to maintain stamina. When I try to bring my back bar (bow) into the mix, the switching actually costs me more in dps lost than gained. I'd be more specific, but I've tried so many skill combinations that I'd just confuse the issue. But even if I could get an extra 1k/sec dot going and another 10-20% from buffs, I'm still nowhere near the 25K dps that everyone else seems to say is the minimum respectable value.

(I'm in the same boat with my magsorc (7k sustained dps) but I haven't put much time in that character.)

I've read a number of posts, and they all describe the build and skill rotation that I've tried (that I can afford). There must be something big, silly mistake that I'm doing. Please help me.

When I can log in again, I'll post some details about my character and build.

I don't have a way to post a video, but I'll try to get a detailed description of the skills and such when I can log into the game and review them.

Both of my weapons are sharpened, but the penetration number escapes me atm.

When you say Night mother i am assuming Night Mothers Gaze? you should find a different set now as that gives the same debuff as Surprise attack (major Fracture) i would suggest Spriggans until you get trial sets.

Generally you have your DoTs on your backbar (Bow), Caltrops, Endless Hail, Poison Injection and then Deadly cloak Surprise attack etc on front bar (Duel Wield).

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. Timing and weaving light attacks between each skill helps.

    Okay....let’s start from the beginning.

Night Mother won’t be doing you any favors. Your surprise attack already applies Major Fracture (what NMG 5th piece bonus applies), so it does you no good. I would switch that out with any number of sets.

First, we need to get your gear in order to maximize your output. I’m giving the easiest routes to take, but they give very viable equipment. Once you have that base, it can be further refined and built upon.

    1. Keep Hundings/Lose Night Mother’s Gaze. Hundings daggers -1 infused, and 1 nirnhoned (if you know trait), otherwise you can do sharpened instead of nine. 3 Hundings body pieces. Medium/Divines/purple

    2. You want a monster set. Fungal Grotto 1 on vet difficulty is not hard. You’ll get the Kragh’s monster helm from there. If it’s a daily quest, you can get two keys for the undaunted chests and possibly get the matching shoulders from Maj al Ragath’s chest. .

    3. Your 3rd set will be something that may necessitate farming a zone. I’d say an easy 2nd set for you would be Spriggans. All you need are 3 jewelry pieces and two body pieces. Trait isn’t even as important, nor is color of jewelry. You can wear blue or even green jewels, and then whichever 2 body pieces you have open. This set is found in Bangkorai, and will typically hear ppl selling pieces in zone chat (or do a “WTB Spriggans body pieces”).

Now, if you accomplished that, you should be ready for some REAL action. But before that, let’s check your skills.

Skills: front bar, dual wield Hundings Rage daggers (infused dagger with weapon damage enchant, sharpened dagger with poison damage enchant).

    -Killers Blade (your awesome execute)
-Bloodcraze (from Dual Wield skill line.). Applies a great bleed, and leeches health back to you
-Surprise Attack (your bread and butter). Applies Major Fracture (same debuff as NMG), and hits like a truck
-Relentless Focus (damage and sustain). Don’t worry abojt spectral bow procs yet, just concentrate on keeping the skill up
-Deadly Cloak (dual wield line). Still strong dmg after nerf, and gives you 25% dmg reduction from enemy AoE

    Ult: Incapacitating Strike

Backbar: Hundings Bow, nine if you can, if not sharpened.

-Poison Injection (last skill, very strong single target damage over timr (DOT),
-Arrow Hail (effective strong AoE damage)
-Rearming Trap (last Fighter’s guild ability. Gives the NB 10% critical damage while it’s up)
-Razor Caltrops (have to get this through PvP - which Vigor you do too, so I’d ensure your doing something PvP to level up thr Assault skill life).
-Leeching Strikes (Siphoning skill. Hit this ones and dont hit it again until it’s run out. Gives the most value if it’s up th longest before being refreshed).

Ult: Flawless Dawnbreaker (gives extra weapon damage from Fighters Guild passives. Don’t use this Ult though, always use Incap Strike as its a stronger cheaper Ult to use.

Once you can hurdle those, we can jump to Champion Points. But generally(blue tree) , put 49 in Mighty, 25 piercing, and the rest between Precise Strikes and thurmaturge.
(Green tree). - 64 Mooncalf, some equally split between Dodge roll chance and blocking cost, and if leftover put into Tenacity.

Come back in a week, and I guarantee if you followed the above, you should b well-above 7k. Feel free to message me also. I may not hit as hard as some of the top players here, I can do a solo Nightblade parse on a 3mil dummy no cheese at 45k. Iv even played this class since day 1 it dropped on consoles.

    Ah. The rotation!

Start by casting Relentless and Leeching Strikes. Then drink a potion, and jump in:

    Start: Backbar

    1. Arrow Hail
    2. Light Attack (LA)
    3. Rearming Trap
    4. LA
    5. Poison Inject
    6. LA
    7. Caltrops (BAR SWITCH)

Front bar - Sharpened Hundings dagger primary, secondary infused dagger.

    1. Surprise attack
    2. LA
    3. Blood Craze
    4. LA
    5. Deadly Cloak
    6. LA
    7. 2xSurprise Attack and LA’s in between (BAR SWITCH).

***fire Relentless bow proc whenever up, and reapply this buff and Leeching Strikes when they go down). Below 25%, maintain same rotation as above, but use Killers Blade instead of Surprise Attack.

Thanks for the replies. I'll swap armor sets and practice getting to that back bar more. Wish me luck!

    ....

light attacks add a huge ammount of DPS, especially with the Expansion. Not only will it add a considerable ammount of dmg, they do also procc the enchantments on your weapons. you really need to place a light attack between every skill.
if you want, alcast recently uploaded a video about the different types of animation canceling and how to do them. highly recommend it

Make sure to "swap" it on PTS first. Don't buy or farm anything, until you know that you need it for sure.

What's your stamina pool at? Do you have all your attributes points into stamina and stamina enchantments on your armor? And food (or drink) that boosts your stamina?

Since it hasn't been mentioned explicitly, Weapon Enchantments should be the 174 Weapon Damage ones.

Also max level food will make a huge difference on DPS, as will swallowing +Weapon Crit/Stamina/Stamina Recovery tri-pots on cooldown.

I'm just going to post the best rotation here, video done by my good friend Liko. Reason being is that its better to start practicing a proper rotation straight away and maybe take slightly longer to get good results, but at least you'll be doing it correctly from the beginning.
