If you are wearing Light Armor (5 Light atleast) in PvP, how many Defensive Sets are you running to offset the lack of Defense running 5 Light incurs?

I could backbar Riposte for defense, but:
    • There aren't that many good defensive sets that apply to shields (I can only think of Riposte and Vampire's Cloak)
    • If I'm running light armor then I've already made the choice to sacrifice survivability for damage, so I'd rather run sets that give me damage on top of the extra damage I get from LA passives than running defensive sets to try and make up for what I lost by not going with heavy armor

I'm defending myself without defensive sets, because having one mean having low damage or low sustain.

As a sorc, I mitigate damage with my only shield (49k magicka), a frost staff for blocking (the new block sorc passive work well with it), and 17k stamina pool with 3 well fitted for dodging.

    Class doesn't matter...

I already expect those who main Mag Sorcs to run 1 or none...

I actually think medium armor is a little better than light armor right now better burst and mobility. 1v1 the defense is about even and mediums defense is much better when outnumbered. With light armor being much more squishy than medium armor because of the lack of mobility forcing you to stand your ground but without the resistances and healing to do so. Mag sorc and stamblade excluded from this argument.

Thanx for the responses guys; the poll results are interesting to me so far...

Most of you seem to wear 0 defensive sets or 2 it seems...

My best original build features 2 Defensive Sets and 1 offensive (for a Magplar); for a long time, I felt this was the way to go...

But recently I've been experimenting with 3 Defensive Sets (without 1h/Shield; am using Dual Wield/Resto Staff instead) and the results have been far, far, better than I imagined they'd be...

I have just enough burst to kill most opponents (of course, most players aren't very good) via the Light Armor offensive passives in addition to my ability selections...

Now the better built characters (as pertains withstanding damage), I can't kill, but they can't kill me either...

Simultaneously with this, those who are offensively strong enough to kill me are vulnerable to my level of offense (and so far my defensive ability has been proving superior in those cases for the most part)...

3 Defensive Sets has been very good for me thus far as a result...

With this poll, I was just checking to see if anyone else had adopted such a set up, and what kind of results had they gotten with it...

But so far, it looks like I'm the only one running a set up like that...

    None really:

    Mag Sorc: Alteration Mastery/Shacklebreaker.

    Magblade: Shacklebreaker/War Maiden

    MagDK: Silks/BSW

    Magden: Necro/Shacklebreaker

I use a shield on all of them. And my mag sorc runs all Infused instead of impen.

I don't really understand the question. I mean I understand it, but I don't understand what you're trying to get out of it, because it's kind of a broad and generic question that doesn't focus in on something.

You need to specify the class and the content that you play in.

There's certain sets that work well for certain classes, but every class is different. Like, you might run BloodSpawn on MagDK for Ult Regen which means sustain and because you get to tank a bit out of necessity so armor is good. But it's an entirely wasted 2-piece for MagBlades or MagSorcs for example that rely more on shields and damage avoidance.

Earthgore and Wiz Riposte are usually worn by support builds, which suits a MagPlar very well, but again if you're playing these on more aggressive classes then it doesn't really fit with the style of play so much, you're better off going for sustain or damage.

IMO, a Defensive Set is one in which the sets bonus's (primarily the 5th piece bonus) solely mitigates damage or increases your Health Pool...

The question is intended to be broad and general...

I simply want to know (for those that wear 5 Light in PvP) how many Defensive Sets you are running...

I am aware that some classes play better in general with 1 or 0 Defensive Sets (Mag Sorcs); I realize that some classes typically run multiple Defensive Sets in PvP (you see this a lot, but not all the time, on Mag Templars)...

But to be more specific (and I mentioned this in a prior post in this thread), I wanted to know if anyone out there (regardless of class) was wearing 3 Defensive Sets (while in 5 Light) as I currently am and what results they had gotten with it...

I didn't spell out my intent in the OP as I didn't want to sway the argument one way or the other...

I tried a bunch of combinations of Brass, Impreg, Wizard's, Cyro's Light (for the Deep Thoughts lols), several monster sets, and more.

Several combinations felt good/ok but as you probably know once you get put on your back foot as a magplar it's hard to turn the tables. Therefore I can control the fight a little better if my damage is high.

Also I'm super addicted to Shacklebreaker. I feel almost neutered without it. :(
