6mb/s connection....so why am I downloading at 0.5mb/s

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on why this might be?
I am currently the only one on the network at this location and I do not have any other things downloading or client side bottlenecks or restrictions on my system that I am aware of.

Are your sure its not 6 M Bits per second instead of 6 megabytes per second? In almost every case net speed as advertised by an ISP is stated in M Bits If you are only paying for 6 M Bits that would explain the slow speed.
Here is an example of what I mean by M Bits, note here M Bits is written as Mbps - but it means the same thing, it does NOT mean Megabytes Per Second it means Mega Bits Per Second

Sad face : ( I am sorry to tell you this but that 6 MB/s is telling you that your max speed on the best days is only going to hit about 0.75 of a single Megabyte so less then 1 meg a second... : ( if you can afford it I implore you to seek out a new ISP and ideally ( IN THE US AT LEAST ) you would want something with 200 UP and 200 DOWN so 200/2000 -
Just because you have internet does not mean it will be reliable or robust, 6 mbps may just be the limit you have, where are you in the world? I don't know any place that has such weak infrastructure >.<0

download speed does not seem to correlate with the actual limitations of my network speeds.

dbgager✭✭✭The little b on Mb indicates megabits ..Megabytes is MB.
That would be less than 1 MB/sec. About 45 MB a minute. About 2.7GB an hour.Edited by dbgager on June 14, 2018 11:27PM0
