Can treasure map chests get an upgrade?

I just tracked down ten maps I’d been hold...what a pile of garbage I got. Like literally garbage...I’m breaking every single piece down.

It’s sad...there’s so much cool stuff in the game now, can we upgrade these? Furnishings maps? Tel Var one Ap grab bags? Anything else?

How about they make them always include a Master Jewelry Crafting Writ.

That'll go down great with the community. Everyone loves those.

Not usually worth scrapping the stuff as you don’t after get intricate out of it, sell it to an npc merchant and scrap the rings. They are sadly a waste of time unless I’m collecting a survey and happen to be in the same zone

Khajiit agrees these chests never seem to contain what she would define as 'treasure'.

This one is most curious about who would take a couple of bits of armour, good only for deconstruction or research, and take the time and trouble to go and bury them in a remote location.

Then draw a map and hide the map somewhere.

    Khajiit suspects the elves ...

Perhaps rare furnishings, rarer style stones, random decent motif pages, crafting materials, gold jewellery, purple furnishing recipes?

At least one item of genuinely worthwhile treasure in each chest yes. Something you are pleased to find and not just the contents of the backpack of a below average bandit.

I would love updated items. Make them more like treasures, and while doing that please decrease the drop rate of the maps. They just aren't special as is.

It would be great if there was a chance to get for example a motif page (like in the Psijic portals) or maybe one of the new jewelery trait materials (looking at you Gildin Wax). As it is now the chance to get a random set piece and a malachite shard is really not that motivating to go 'treasure hunting'.

Mostly just bumping this thread back to the front page.

Also, I generously assume ZOS knows that treasure maps don't reward treasure, and ZOS are worried that if they upgrade the rewards (so they are worth the effort of following the map) there will be a backlash from all the many players who have been deleting maps with other inventory clutter.

I forgot I still had the original CE maps from launch and thought "Hey, I bet these will have something good in them". Did 6 of them and there wasn't anything worth anything, not even a single piece of jewlery.....

Got some of those CE treasure maps with summerset.

The contents of the chests were underwhelming to say the least.

Agree with you @davey1107 ... I'd even be OK with a slight reduction in the drop rate if the rewards were improved.

I just went and cleared out my bank of treasure maps, took a few hours and opened them all.

... Crap. Total decon crap. A waste of time and kind of a letdown. I do not want your malachite shards. I do not care for random green ruby ash staffs. I do not like green eggs and ham.

Seriously, though. Finding a treasure map should be a moment of excitement, not an eyeroll and a quick delete to make room for some carapaces.

It would such an easy QoL improvement to actually make the treasure... treasure. It doesn't have to be crazy, but a chance at a motif, some modern style mats or maybe some jewelrycrafting mats would make these so much more exciting.

The CE maps are intentionally weak. They are intended to provide new players some gear to use or decon early in the game.

The regular treasure maps are great. I bought around 50-60 of them once Summerset dropped and I already had around 100 from the anniversary event. Spent around 5 hours collecting them all and collecting nodes and doing the psijic portals. From the chests alone, I found enough jewelry to get my crafting up to 30. Also from the chests, I found enough valuable gear to flip for 100K or so. Considering I spent maybe 10K on maps, making 100K is a good return.

People who say that they are useless don't seem to understand the actual value. One of the easiest ways to farm for gear is to buy the treasure maps for that zone. Buy as many as you can under a certain price (I usually don't spend more than 500 depending on the zone and 20K total). And then farm the maps and do dolmens, nodes, psijic portals and world bosses along the way. Anything you don't want you can sell.

And if you don't get the pieces you need, if you are in more valuable zones like Rivenspire, Bangkorai, Malabal Tor, Deshan, etc, you will easily make a return on your investment in the trader.

The problem is you can do all of that without the treasure chests and get pretty much a similar return from the time invested. Treasure chests are not worth the hunt and there's no "reward" feeling when you open the vast majority of them. Bumbling around in the overworld yields much better rewards. That's a problem (not the overworld being worth exploring, but treasure chests being a reward tier "under" it. Treasure chests should at LEAST be as good as Psijic portals.)

I'd much rather get fewer maps leading to better treasure than continue with the current routine. That said, I'd prefer for motif pages and rarer style materials to become fishing rewards in other zones, as they currently are in Summerset and Artaeum rather than have them added to treasure map chests. A blue (with the occasional purple) furnishing recipe would be great, though.

Yeah. Any grinding for 5 hours will easily get more than 100k. Even just farming mats.

Treasure maps require you to stop doing what you want to do and travel to a zone with nothing left to do it it. Then there is usually a significant horse ride.

The weakness of the CE maps really makes no sense. New players don't have fast mounts and after working hard to find treasure they end up with gear no better than what they would have found just questing.

The key with treasure maps is to stockpile a bunch of the same map in your mail. Whether that's by buying a bunch and not opening the mail, or by having a buddy RTS them to you. Then you run the spawn point with a map in your inventory, loot it, retrieve one from your mail, mount up and ride a few hundred yards away, and run back and the chest will have respawned.

I did this quite a bit when I was farming sun and red mountain pieces in Stonefalls back in the day. Much more efficient use of time than just travelling all over Tamriel looting a bunch of random maps.
